I'm not even sure how I feel about this. Luckily, I'm not a diehard when it comes to their music, so I'm okay with them destroying their credibility with me. If it turns out to be good, then hey, good on them.

Well, I wouldn't say that Muse was shit. It was the dumbed down version of Radiohead, but it was fun at least. It's good pop-music.

The only Muse album I've payed serious attention to is The Resistance
in my opinion - at least according in the way the songs are arranged - it comes across as some kind of over-glamourised pseudo-adaptation and pseudo-modernisation of George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four (with the likely exception of Exogenesis Parts I-III), and while I won't comment on whether or not I feel it publicly succeeded in whatever it was meant to be I do not mind saying I have enjoyed the album and most of its songs in moderation for at least sounding good if not necessarily sounding right all of the time
Voluntary Illusion.

I wouldn't say shit, but they are hideously overrated.
And the only people I know who like Muse are just people who like the coolness of Bellamy(HE HAS A CHAOZPAD ON EVERY GUTAR OH EM GEE ROCK GOD ALL YEARS EVERY YEAR) much more than, well... the music?

The only song I actually liked that Muse did was Knights of Cydonia.

They are horribly overrated. Though not shit.

do you use a points system to quantitatively determine how good music is? i like to do this, because it gives me numbers to back up my musical opinions. i assign one point to each falsetto vocal, two for every electronic element, one for each major guitar chord, three for each minor guitar chord, etc. the highest-rated album in my collection is, with a whopping 465 points, is Muse's Origin of Symmetry, whereas the lowest is Tom Waits' Swordfishtrombones, with a paltry six points. This is the only way to objectively judge music.

check your inbox btw.

as for what I've been hearing lately:

Mirag - Witch Queen Ascending: With a title like that and a gloriously pulpy cover to match, I was kind of expecting some sort of doofy traditional heavy metal. It kind of is, too. If, say, Gnaw Their Tongues is the noise equivalent of black metal, this would be the noise equivalent of doofy traditional heavy metal. A distinctly fantastic and psychedelic noise record. It sounds like a witch queen ascending, or alternatively like Horseback with all that half-assed "melody" shit gotten rid of. Like listening to the hypothetical soundtrack of Harmony Korine's "Conan the Barbarian".

Nadja - Thaumogenesis: I remember listening to these guys' Radiance of Shadows a while back and hating it - i don't recall why but it's like a 1 on my RYM for some reason. On the other hand, this was pretty good. Melodramatic drone ambient with enough metallic bite to stay interesting.

Velvet Cacoon - Dextronaut: velvshit crapoon's black metal attempts still sound exactly like My Bloody Darkthrone at all times, but you could probably do worse if you had to pick two bands whose sounds you would be forced to clumsily combine (although in the case of MBV, probably not). Truth be told I kind of like the ambient bonus disc better; here and on the final fuck-you that is their final release, the 2xLP Atropine, their womblike minimal ambient hints at a different kind of Norwegian influence: trading in Leif Gylve Nagell for Geir Jenssen. Except, oh wait, Fenriz also did two minimal ambient albums, both of which were fucking great tributes to early Klaus Schulze and easily two of the best non-black metal records ever made by black metal people. Which, in keeping with lelvet fagoon's typical modus operandi, were probably what their ambient stuff is attempting to copy.

Bong - Mana-Yood-Sushai:
MAAAAAAAANAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD SUUUUUSHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Also I guess there's guitars on this album or something

Belkètre - Ambre Zuèrkl Vuordhrévarhtre: This isn't the first time I've listened to this album or anything like it, I just wanted to post the name here

When I'm half-listening to Planet Rock, and start to wonder to myself "What the hell is this crap, and how does it fit on this station?" it's usually back-announced as something by Muse; most recently that honour went to Knights of Cydonia.. Sometimes, though, it's Soundgarden, when they play something other than the horribly recognizable Black Hole Sun.

That seems rather silly, considering music is a mostly subjective experience. I'd much rather judge a song based on how much I enjoy it, or by how closely it resonates with me, rather than plugging it into an arbitrarily constructed equation and seeing if the numbers tell me I like the song. But to each there own, I suppose; I have plenty of my own silly rituals.

It's copypasta. I don't actually like Muse.

I used to really like Muse, but The Resistance was just bleh, put a huge wet towel on my appreciation of the band.

Can classical music be discussed here?

Beautiful. I'll start by saying I love the Ravel Bolero. It is just so romantic.

Now that I'm back to ballet, I've been going back to classical pieces and Tchaikovsky will always remain as my favorite. The man is truly a romantic genius: you can feel the romance fill your ears and feel just so happy when you start listening to all of those wonderful tones and I always end up reenacting my old ballet lessons from when I was 14 years old

Needless to say, I love classical music. Perhaps it's the only kind of music I listen to. -o-;

Learning ballet myself has given me a newfound respect classical music and i find Tchaikovsky to be just amazing. It also helped when i came to the realization that metal has more in common with classical music than it does with say rock.

A male in ballet? That is so sweet. :toothy:

Your last statement reminded me of a metal group from Finland. I can't remember its name right now, it had to do with something about 'night'. My point is, I only liked it because they tried to resemble epic, symphonic music as much as possible.

Dies Irae from Requiem came to my mind the other day when a few newbies in the lab decided to mix aluminium with hydrogen chloride.

Yes, that's the one. Thanks. I will have to relisten them, see if I liked them how I did back then.
