This is for discussion pertaining to Hideaki Anno's live-action "Shin" films, such as Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider.

Probably too early in shooting to expect a legitimate trailer with footage. But, at the very least we should get a title for the movie & possibly hear their version of the famous Godzilla roar.

I've also seen some articles online saying the film has been announced for a Japanese release date of July 23, 2016 but without an official source that seems sketchy.

I guess we'll get two title cards. The first will be: NEXT, the second one will be: SHIN GOJIRA.

Eva-fan linked to a new article about Anno's Godzilla:

I guess this does confirm the movie is "Shin Godzilla?"

Excellent! Twitter's translator keeps calling it "Singh Godzilla" and "Thin Godzilla," so it seemed like a safe guess.

I know the Japanese thought the American Godzilla was fat, but I don't think they'd take it that far. :tongue:

I should probably mention that Shin Gojira isn't the only G-movie to use the Tokusatsu/CGI hybrid method

^ Well, that movie is a fan films, and not an official Toho release. Though, I do think a few of the films in the Millennium Godzilla series used a hybrid os techniques as well.

Final Wars had some CGI and Godzilla vs. Megaguirus had a full CGI model for the underwater scenes.

Not in the way i'm referring to though, which is filming the guy in the suit, then enhancing the shot and the monster in it with CG to heighten the effect. Attack on Titan, Godzilla heritage and (hopefully) Shin Gojira all use this technique while the millennium films had the suit shots and CG shots (Godzilla underwater for example) seperate

News post details here: http://www.evageeks.org/2015/09/details-2016-godzilla-revealed/

I don't follow any Japanese cinema so I know nothing about these actors.

I guess unless the actual title that shows up on screen when the movie plays is New Godzilla I'll just keep calling it Godzilla 2016.

Japan has noticed that the Godzilla part of the title card is taken directly from the original movie:

Also Evafan points out that the katakana Shin can be interpreted as:
新 = New
真 = True
神 = God
among other things

Plot twist, this Godzilla film IS related to Eva and sets up the events for 4.0

Do we know it is? It could be that Anno decided that he couldn't get back to finishing the Eva films before a certain date, and Godzilla is simply filling the gap.

According to The Eva Monkey:

View Original PostThe Eva Monkey wrote:I spoke with a source very close to production at Khara.

1) The ball is in Funimation's court. Funi is not being held up by Khara.

2) Though Anno is working on Godzilla, production on the final Rebuild film is active and ongoing. The wheels are in fact turning.

So hopefully we can get both of them in short order and nobody has to hate anything! I am all for more Godzilla and it has been a looooong wait since Final Wars. If both movies do come out next year, I'd love to see some crossover promotional merch. Toho's theaters did do the blu-ray theatrical run of NGE last month.

I know nothing about American distribution of non-animated Japanese films. How long should I expect the lag between the Japanese and American releases to be?

It depends who has the distribution rights for the film, if anyone. Seeing how successful the US Godzilla movie was, I expect it'll be out in less than a year.
