The forum is less reliable than Shinji in the wrong mood lately

I am doing what I can, but at the moment that is limited to restarting the forum when it breaks. I've had a quick look at possible causes, but it will not be until after 20th Nov that I'll be in a position to concentrate on diagnosing and bug fixing (if someone else hasn't picked up the ball by then) because I'm about to go away.


I've written more in Sachi's Discord, which I won't repeat here.

Sadly the forum had to stay down while I was away. However, I have been able to restart it, and have made a change in configuration which might help make it stable again. I have not finished investigating, though.

The long delay was because I was the only person around with the necessary access to work on the server. I have now added a couple of other members of staff so that there will be more options in the future.

If there is any user out there with adequate Linux (CentOS 7) and database (MariaDB, a clone of MySQL) experience who feels that they could commit to being able to help occasionally over a long-enough period for it to be useful, please contact me or an administrator.

I haven't been on in a while, I randomly decided to check out the site and saw that it was down. I've been checking back almost daily to see if it would be up again, I'm glad to see you got it up and running.

You may have noticed that the forum has again been hard to get to at times in the past day or so; Ornette's examination of the server logs has revealed that this was most likely caused by a DDoS attack. It is possible that this also underlay some of the earlier problems. The resistance of the server to such attacks has been improved, and there are other steps that could be taken should this become a major problem.

There are acouple of people who defnitely don't like us - most of them being of the kind that doesn't want silly things like facts, logic or (god forbid!) established canon get in the way of their OTP

Also note there is a difference between DDoS en DoS, DDos is directed (the first D) and is thus being done on purpose.
A DoS doesnt have to be an attack, it could be as simple as an indexing bot, or some malware simply requesting too much of the server for it to go down.

So you can still get DoS-ed, without making enemies (which frankly, imo, seems silly. Theres quite a bit of risk involved in using DDoS services, so if there's no financial gain, why bother?).

I remember that. The pages were taking forever to load, and sometimes took a few tries to get to a different one, with what I think are called "500 Service errors" popping up.

It's still one the best times I've had on this forum though.

I'm having trouble accessing the forum on my 3DS web browser. It's giving me an error that says the site's certificate is expired.

The certificate is fine (it updates automatically a month before it's due to expire):



I have no experience of the 3DS browser, but I presume there's a way to clear its cache, which is the first thing I'd try.
