I disabled it as soon as Donut mentioned it, figuring we should talk about any major new features with social implications before we just go and leave them on by default.

Cluttered because it's clustered. All the different elements (posts, avatars, buttons) stick a lot closer together now. It feels like there is too much going on per frame, as if the elements are not in chime with each other, instead fighting against each other for attention, rather than going in accord and meshing. Maybe too much information per frame? I feel like if elements were a little further apart from each other, if there was more breathing space between elements, it might help to calm the overall vibe down. Or it's really just the colours which make it hard for me to differentiate between where something is located at first glance. It's not a big deal, but it kinda makes the place feel a lot less calm.

Or I'm just not used to it.

I suggest trying the new wide version out, that fixed many of my issues.

Great, now the forum has a mobile friendly version and quoting multiple posts is much easier. Those were the kinds of improvements I was hoping for.

I second that, I didn't use the wide version in the old EGF but here it looks better to me.

Whoa -- I completely forgot about the mobile side. Hope none of my extensions break it. :uhh:

Also there's a bug right now in the quotelink extension (written by me in a hurry) because I didn't know about the multi-quote feature, but it's nothing catastrophic.

Welp, it does help. Also, now that the posts are more clearly separated, it feels a lot tidier than before. Overall I'm very happy with the new look now, especially when the colours become just a tad more harmonious. All of you did a great job, thank you so very much for your efforts. But as I'm just a sucker for minimalism, I suggest making the icons on the left side of the threads maybe a little more minimalistic?

Oh, and I love the green bar to indicate somebody's online!

Yeah, this is going to take some getting used to. It's certainly a big change-- whether I think it's good or bad is going to take some more time to decide, but for time time being, there doesn't seem to be anything too terrible, so...

Interestingly, I can report posts now. That seems to be a welcome feature, actually. However, all the non-English in my signature and profile information is broken, which isn't nearly as welcome.

No idea that this was going to happen, but I'm glad it did, this place runs waaaaay faster now, kudos! :sakura:

Yeeeaaah, that's another one of those things we gotta look into... The bright side is, at least it's there. You have no idea how much work it was to get the converter not to scream and shout at every little non-latin character that came its way. You can fix the text manually if you remember what it was supposed to be, or you can wait for us to try to figure out a forum-wide solution.

This server exists solely to host EvaGeeks (for now). It also currently only serves the forum itself, not the wiki, which apparently gets similar traffic -- meaning we're under half the usual load for now. I never asked Ornette why the previous iteration ran so slowly, but I don't mind it so much now if it means the brand spanking new EGF gets to make a good first impression :kaos_victory: :kaos_teehee:.

(Wuh-oh, turns out that bug I mentioned triggers on preview if you do it on a quote-reply. Gotta get on that soon...)

The colors are garish, the print is tiny, and everything seems cluttered and disorganized. The experiment has failed, and I believe that we should return things to the way it was. I don't even know the reason why things had to change in the first place.

I don't even know if I can do that. And it's had to tell if there's a new post. I forgot to put that in.

Go to the user control panel and select board preferences to switch to wide.

There doesn't seem to be much improvement in doing that. I still stand by my assesment.

It's the first day, and the goal was originally to reproduce the previous look as much as possible but that was unavoidable.

the print is tiny,

Use control + mousewheel up to increase text size on any site. But, that's still a valid point -- something's off about the text for me too.

and everything seems cluttered and disorganized.

It's a work-in-progress, for sure.

The experiment has failed, and I believe that we should return things to the way it was. I don't even know the reason why things had to change in the first place.

The old software had become difficult to maintain and the website had worked its way into a precarious position where it was technologically utterly dependent on Ornette, whose time became ever more scarce. We moved to a new server (mine, with pwhodges as my vice-commander and providing a temporary domain name) and software and the resulting changed look is because we could not use the styles from the previous version, so Paul went to a lot of trouble and effort to find one that looked "close enough" and then worked further (and is still working further) to try to get it looking more and more like its old self again.

This is not even our final form.

What's with the green/red bars that appear at the side, is it to do with staff and normal users?

We just discovered that a certain class of old links are broken. Not sure what happened yet, but unfortunately I can't tackle the problem right now cuz I gotta go to beeed.

Give it time, folks. This is a work in progress, and Paul and Monk have been working very hard to get it done. They're focusing on functionality first and foremost -- we don't even have a mail server yet, so people who are used to getting e-mail notifications for posts are getting naught but silence now. Let them worry about stuff like that before fussing with aesthetics.
For my post-3I fic, go here.

People's deaths are to be mourned. The ability to save people should be celebrated. Life itself should be exalted. -- Volken Macmani, Tatakau Shisho: The Book of Bantorra
I hate myself. But maybe I can learn to love myself. Maybe it's okay for me to be here! That's right! I'm me, nothing more, nothing less! I'm me. I want to be me! I want to be here! And it's okay for me to be here! -- Shinji Ikari, Neon Genesis Evangelion
Yes, I know. You thought it would be something about Asuka. You're such idiots.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA.

Actually you probably do.

That one's probably my biggest worry right now. Technically speaking I probably triggered the change too early, but I was excited and felt like the deadline we were operating under (which has faded from memory as to exactly why it was a deadline) was really freakin' nigh.
