most people.
(Damn, limited thread title space pisses me off.

Anyway, roughly 70% of the time when I attempt to mentally effect the outcome of something random in a video game, it works. Doesn't work if my statement is negative.
Ex. Playing a turn-based RPG, I think, “Please don't miss.” The attack misses.
If I think, “Please hit,” the attack doesn't miss.

To anyone that knows more about parapsychology than I do, is ~70% below, above, or close to the average PK strength?
And to any statisticians, is ~70% above chance?

Can anyone help me think of a good experiment I can try?

And no, this isn't me being a pseudotroll.

Get a coin and flip it in the air. Use psychokinesis to make it come up either heads or tails consistently. If you really have powers, then after 100 flips I would say that 75/25 in your favor would be a pretty strong ratio. I used to know the formula for calculating the odds of certain things like this happening. Basically, if you can come up with consistent results when math says that there's less than 1% of it happening, then you probably do have power over the physical world.

EDIT: Nix that. An easy way would be to flip it 5 times. If you can get heads or tails to come up all 5 times that would be a 3% chance of happening. If you do it once, repeat it: at 0.1% chance of happening, if you can do that, then you may be on to something.

Push a pendulum -- if it's initially at rest, pushing in step with its swing period would accumulate the effect of a lot of small pushes.

Do events occurring in video games truly be considered random? I think that in most games, such events as hitting or missing show pretty distinct patterns that could be picked up even subconsciously. Especially in RPG's or turned based strategies, where such events are supposed to work by various statistics of characters/units.

At any rate, you could always try influencing a roulette spin. That's pretty random, i guess.

If it turns out that you do have extraordinary psychokinetic powers, come over to Hungary. I have a plan about influencing the automated lottery draw. We can split  .

This is also something I plan to learn though right now I've been focusing more on stuff like astral projection. From what I hear a good excercise for this is to try pushing candle flame around with your mind.

I got 6/10 on the coin flip.
I'll also try the candle flame thing when it's not so damn hot.

Well here's a tip for you , maybe you should try meditating on the coin side you want it to land before hand. I tried doing this awhile ago when I was trying to find things to practice using intention on and I was able to get 9/10 3 times in a row, but after that the coin flips went back to normal.

EDIT: well actually before they went back to normal I got 9/10 on the opposite side of the coin I was trying to get 3 times in a row, not sure what the deal was with that.

Video proof or it didn't happen. According to my calculations, the chance of it happening once is 0.1%, the chance of it happening three times would be .001*.001*.001 or .0000001% or 1 in 1 billion. Slightly less than that since the actually number is more like 1 in 1024 instead of 1 in 1000. So it's more accurately 1 in 1.074 billion.

Probability is weird, as is the observer bias you're adding. The occasions when you're right stick in your mind far more often than those when you're wrong. Never mind the fact that as you play the game, you tend to pick up on when you have better chances of hitting with attacks.

You're screwing the data to fit your own expectations.
