So apparently the one big eva doujin that isn't pornographic has no place anywhere, so I was wondering if you guys would be interested. Simply put, it's a 700+ page waff fest of the Asuka x Shinji variety. Our group worked on this baby for about a year, mainly because I'm a lazy typesetter. Let me know if this kind of thing is against the rules, since I know we might do more eva doujins in the future (Pengel's Proto Rei x Asuka comes to mind).

Wow.

Never read this, owing to my lack of moonrune learnings, but I'm definitely taking a look at it now.

Thanks. That's a lot of work.

Given what's been done with ReTake around here, I shall make the executive decision that linking a translation of an old fanfic is not really going to be a problem.

Like I said before, I'm glad somebody beat me to translating this massive 703-page doujin of LAS-ness. :asuka_geh:  :shinji_blush:

Pengel's a personal favorite doujin-ka for a reason. (I plan on translating Happy End Of Eva in the summer, just FYI.)

Excellent job with the localization, and I look forward to the Prototype Girls Parallel Love Story doujin too.

(I made a culture note comment on THAT BOARD, by the way.)

Already passed my thanks "there", but I'll gladly do it again :exalt:

Are you guys taking suggestions/requests for future translations? As you don't seem to shy away from longer stories, how about "Lost Memories"?

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?jmlid1ztbae

It doesn't seem to be all that well known, which is quite a shame IMO (though I guess being drama-oriented, non-H and not focusing on the popular characters does that for you (and I guess the art-style isn't for everyone either)).
It covers Kyoko's time from her pregnancy with Asuka to her stay in the hospital after the 02 incident (and probably would have gone to the end, but sadly it seems episode 3 never got released (or at least scanned)). Lot's of "Dawww"-moments with young Asuka.

I don't know about taking requests, we usually just do things that interest us. The whole reason we did Sono Go no Eva was we didn't really think it through when we first started out. In all honesty, if I knew how much work it was going to be, I'd rather we'd stick to small projects till we got a better handle on things. We still are new to the whole translating thing, as we've only got a 3 page Genshiken short story, a few random bits of the Eva 1 and 2 Anthology (if anyone knows where I can find some scans of that one let me know, I only have one copy), two doujins and Sono Go under our belt. That said, anyone have any constructive criticism for us? Always looking to better our work when we can.

As my knowledge of Japanese is pretty limited and didn't spot anything particularly wrong with the editing, I'm "afraid" I don't have anything to criticize. :P

Bump because I had a few things I wanted to mention considering I finally read the whole translation yesterday. :sweatdrop:

First off, I wrote this awhile ago on THAT BOARD. Not that it matters in the grand scheme of things, but it was an (amusing) in-joke/anime reference that was missed by you guys:

I wrote:The culture page doesn't have information on page 567...That was surprising considering the "in-joke".

It's a reference to Sailor Moon Episode 110 http://www.smuncensored.com/comparison.php?episodeid=110 where Haruka and Michiru are holding hands before going off to a battle; it's quite a famous scene for the lesbian couple. The joke here is that Sailor Uranus/Haruka is also Shinji's seiyuu (Megumi Ogata)... Shinji's sitting in the similar pose as Haruka and everything. It doesn't hurt that Pengel did some Sailormoon parodies using Eva before. ;)

Hope that helps.

My main nitpicks with the doujin itself is how the story does take the Adam and Eve approach to EoE's ending (urgh >_> ) and

Ending  SPOILER: Show
A/S end up having 8 kids with number 9 on the way! I O____o when I realized that.

Originally when skimming through the story (my BFF hooked me up with an actual copy of the doujin a few years back. Needless to say I'll cherish it always. ), I was under the impression all those kids/people were returnees from the LCL Sea... But nope, Asuka falls into the trap of not remembering "it's a uterus, not a clown car!"

It's just somewhat disappointing that Misato or Kaji or some of the others didn't end up returning, but Shinji and Asuka being the only two people on Earth did fit this particular narrative.

Despite that, Pengel's my favorite doujinka for a reason, and this was an absolutely beautiful story. (A few parts almost made me cry, espeically when Shinji paraphrases his final lines from EoE (when he leaves Yui and returns to Earth) along with Asuka saying she does want to go on living instead of dying/giving up...)

IShoutedAi wrote:That said, anyone have any constructive criticism for us? Always looking to better our work when we can.

I really didn't notice anything that seemed off with Japanese compared to English, although Pengel himself (yes he's a guy, heh) wrote the borrowed NGE lines differently from the actual source. The localization was excellent as far as I'm concerned. In that respect, you guys have have a much better grasp on localization than I do, and probably came out with a better product than I would have.

If you're really interested in a compare/contrast of translations, here's what I did for the back cover 4koma a last year: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i267/sailorstardust/doujin%20stuff/Pengeltransbw.jpg (Black and White Scan) http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i267/sailorstardust/doujin%20stuff/SonoGoNoEvangelionAi709E.jpg (Pink color scan)

Versus what you guys came up with: http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i267/sailorstardust/doujin%20stuff/SonoGoNoEvangelionAi004trans.jpg

Minor differences, really.

As an aside, this is just some fun trivia I noticed through the book (you guys mentioned most of these in your notes): Book has some some Megumi Ogata as well as SM songs for the song lyrics. The appearance by Menchi was amusing, too. And that one page of Shinji (loudly) singing to Asuka is the song Asuka sings in the Animate Cassette ("Kimi no haato get you! get you!"), the notes list on the bottom of the page it's "from the drama cassette". My guess is the song in question is from some old school anime or some pop song, though I believe googling the lyrics awhile ago didn't yield much in the way of results.

Sorry about my rambling (heh), I just love talking about doujin and Asuka/Shinji stuff with other fans.

Keep up the excellent work, I'm rooting for you! :asuka_thumbsup:

(By the way, hopefully I can have Happy End of Evangelion out around late July or August. We'll see, considering I just posted a "poll" of sorts on THAT BOARD.)

I just knew I forgot to comment on this one...

Truly a labor of love you've got there, AI. Enjoyed it immensely, part of the reason I returned to the EVA community at large.

I registered on this forum just to post on this thread. A few weeks ago I watched the Eva series and pretty much got abscessed. I read most of the Eva-R series and checked out RE-Take (which was alright, but very odd in some scenes...). Most of the information about EVA ive came across is on this board, so that could of been another reason for me to register.

Going back on topic...

I really enjoyed reading this manga! Thank you for your hard work! I don't know if I could of done anything for a period of 1 year, unless I really enjoyed it. :-)

Thanks for the comments everyone!
SSD- I suppose I'll go in order lol. For that in joke, I guess since neither myself or Charioteer have really seen a lot of Sailor Moon (I've only seen the first arc of the team getting together and the first movie), so yeah we only got the reference that Asuka made during the cosplay gallery ><

As for the songs, yeah I've got several of the pages translated and sitting in my folders of hell heheh. The main thing we ran into was that they were a bunch of drama cds and rare albums that no one had translated (Here is Greenwood and The Living Game Drama CD comes to mind). I think after looking at all of them, it was almost going to be enough work to have a separate project just translating the songs lol. I wouldn't mind going back and taking another shot at it, but Charioteer is more of a dialogue guy, not a song guy.

Glad you liked it though, I'm looking forward to seeing your Happy End of Eva work! Give a shout if you need a hand :)

I finished reading it about a month ago, and at various points through my reading of it, I cried so hard I couldn't even see. I had to stop and go wash my face off. It was THAT emotional for me, that touching. I guess I'm just a big ol' softie with stuff like that, but it was such a sweeping story, and carried such a hopeful tune with it that I couldn't help myself. The symbolism toward the end in particular hit me hard, as did the comic's references to the show.

My only problem with it was that Asuka seemed at the beginning to be awful quick to just dismiss what happened to her without a thought. She just kind of lets it go without being bitter about it. That's most definitely NOT her, I don't care what universe she's in. It would have taken (IMO) months and months of soul-searching in the ruins for those two to even start talking to each other again.

I'm almost finished reading Re-Take, which presents her in a more accurate light. God what a comic. Both of them feed different parts of my Asuka fetish in very satisfying ways, and I'm glad to have found them both.

so yeah, i read this out of boredom and my desire for waff is definitely filled up for the rest of the year.

but one thing i have to mention. that dream of Asuka were she has twins and they turn out to look like Rei and kaworu (with this stupid grin).......holy shit, i can't remember the last time i laughed so hard. i seriously had to leave my room for a second Image

also, that Shinji in wonderland part was bloody brilliant! Rei as the white rabbit and Asuka as the queen of hearts. can't think of a more fitting crossover role. sorry kaworu, off with your head!

well anyway, thanks for the translation.

I found it quite an enjoyable read, but with a few weaknesses.

First, as was already mentioned, it's strange that NOONE else returns.

It's a bit too much decompressed storytelling. One issue less wouldn't have hurt the storyline at all.

Both Shinji and Asuka seemed to me, basically to return to the way they were prior to Episode 20. Especially Asuka seemed to ignore the later episodes and EoE pretty soon.

That's it, apart from this, I enjoyed it a lot.
