Best order to view the series and movies

I'm getting ready for a marathon viewing of Evangelion. Non stop, in a single day, with bathroom breaks taken while fly me to moon plays between episodes.

Problem is in what order do I view? Before, I didn't have Death and Rebirth. I would view the series, directors cut up to episode 24, followed by EoE, and then back to 25, and 26.

For this viewing, I had originally planned to do the series up to 24, followed by Death, skipping rebirth, and going straight to EoE.

UNTIL, that is, I watched Death. It's continuity rift with the directors cut episodes makes my head hurt(Ep 23)! Also it incorporates dialog from EoTV.

On the bright side, dub voices are the same between Death and Rebirth, and EoE.

I welcome all suggestions on what order to view, what to leave out , what to include, and general thoughts on the subject.
No matter how many times you watch your copy of End of Evangelion, the ending is not going to change.

I would suggest watching them in the best sequential order you can possibly have. That way it makes the best sense. Could you please tell me what Eva DVDs/VHS you have? It would be simpler then.
Make sure you have no interruptions: Close the blinds and curtains, tell you neighbors your out of town for the week, keep movement in wherever to a minimum, and also, move the DVD player next to you so you can keep siting in the same spot.

It depends on if you think the endings are convergent or divergent.

If you think the TV ending and The End of Evangelion are the same thing (part of the same whole):
1-20, 21'-24', The End of Evangelion

If you think the TV ending and The End of Evangelion are NOT the same thing (similar but separate):
1-26; take a break and then watch 21'-24' and The End of Evangelion

Death's primary merit is when you don't have the time to watch the entire series over again. You can probably skip it for some other time when you're planning to watch The End of Evangelion.

Just set up two TVs next to each other and watch EoE and #25-#26 at the same time.

what I did the first time around was watch the entire series (all 26 episodes), then proceeded to watch EoE

IMO, Death is pointless, but the New Video Version episodes aren't (for now on, i'll just watch those)

Be sure to watch the extended/improved versions of episodes 21 through 24 (they're called "Director's Cut" on the US Platinum releases), they include a bunch of scenes that there wasn't enough time or money to put in there for the original airing.

And don't skip episodes 25 and 26, no matter what you may have heard about them. Whether you want to consider them a complement of End of Evangelion, a similar but divergent story, or something entirely different, they're definitely worth watching.

Er. Okay, I just reread your post and see that you've actually seen them before. D'oh. That renders my above explanation pointless, but I don't feel like deleting it. Either way, though, why skip them?

I would actually suggest chronological order, rather than series order, starting with episode 21's flashback, then going to episodes 1-24, followed by EoE, stopping when Instrumentality begins to watch 25 and 26, then watching the rest of EoE. Just a crazy suggestion.

EM nailed it, and I offer a vote for the second option.

I always watch episodes 1-24 and then EoE.

Or

Death then episodes 25-26.

I've always thought the original ending suited being watched after Death because both of them have a kind of segmented feel. I tried merging these into one film with edits here and there... but I forgot about it

Definitely go for what TheEvaMonkey said. The TV versions of 21-24 are no longer necessary (though 25 and 26 TV is sort of necessary).

Episode none of them through none of them, because Evangelion is terrible.

I approve... mostly because that's the order I first watched the series in.

Now I just watch which ever episodes I feel like watching when I feel like watching some EVA.
