Seriously....they're doing this AGAIN.

http://twitchfilm.net/news/2010/05/is-this-how-godzilla-will-look-in-the-us-reboot.php

Who knows what to expect. I just wish there was a recent film announcement for an ORIGINAL IDEA.

I can't bring myself to stick additional Godzilla projects into the AGAIN file and be shocked or annoyed. Godzilla is one of those things that's always bound to return in some form; he's like the news. I can't wait, even if it sucks, because there will be another one looming behind it anyway.

On a sorta-not-really related tangent, I'd sure like to see Gamera cross the Pacific someday. Never did find out what happened with that gyaos swarm at the end of that third movie....

Why can't they just make it look like Godzilla?

From the top and front, Gojira's (Godzilla's) face in original Gojira (1954) film looked looked similar to that of Asian dragons. Albeit a rather unintentional maneuver, as the filmmakers were going for a more dinosaurian look.

This Godzilla design seems to be more reminiscent of the European dragons. Again, I don't know how intentional that was. Seems as though the Americans again seem to be going for a lizard-like look to accompany the dinosaur look. Although instead of the iguana shaped features of the 1998 Emmerich film, this one seems to be inspired from the Komodo dragon.

Although my initial reaction to this conglomeration of designs just kinda reminds me of Space Godzilla.

I seen that design before, and it looks pretty cool for something that is fan made. Also we have a Godzilla thread somewhere in this forum.

Another angle on the design here. From further top, the design doesn't look half bad.

Also, it seems that Yoshimitsu Banno WILL be one of producers along with Kenji Okuhira. Japanese influence on a foreign adaptation of a Japanese monster flick can't be all THAT bad. At the most we could hope for a Godzilla flick with a bigger budget than the Japanese films, but I'm still to skeptic to get my hopes up over it.

Cloverfield was how Godzilla should have been done and it was done.

Cloverfield was how Godzilla should have been done and it was done.

Through a bad camera, lots of people talking, not even mentioning the title monster for about half and hour, and missing some destruction scenes?

I take it I'm the only one that likes the design.

Cloverfield was nice for a stand alone movie but if it was a Godzilla movie then I would like it less. It's too early for them to make designs for the movie already since the movie does not comeout for another two or three years.

Cloverfield wasn't a "movie" in the way people like to traditionally think of movies. It was home video footage dramatized to mirror what it would look like if someone actually was running around with the camera during a monster attack. That's all it was supposed to be, nothing more and nothing less. And I think it achieved that pretty well. Although the side-effect was that it didn't have a good re-watch quality for me.

As for the new Godzilla movie, if this was official designs of the monster, Warner Brothers or Legendary Pictures would have pulled it from the net a long time ago.

God Almighty, REALLY?!

please do not let Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer get anywhere near this

Cloverfield was a disappointment btw, The Blair Witch Project and a monster movie in a blender was what that was, and I didn't like Blair Witch and most monster movies outside of Japan and Universal Monsters IMO suck

That's not the actual design they're using. It's just an old maquette, (presumably from pre-production on the '98 movie) that got leaked onto the internet. There's no final design yet.

Personally, I'd LOVE to see this end up being really good, and in the spirit of the original 1954 film- however, in order to do that, you'd have to broaden the metaphor a LOT, from "atomic warfare" to "war and military science in general". I don't have enough confidence in Hollywood to think they'd have the intelligence to do that or the talent to pull it off without it seeming pretentious.

...they're making another godzilla movie? gosh, have these people learned nothing?

bittersweet ending: episode 24. the angels are gone and mankind is safe... but tokyo-3 has been ruined; Kaji is dead; toji is a cripple; kensuke, hikari, and their families have moved away, taking pen-pen with them; Asuka is catatonic; ritsuko is in prison; Misato is a nervous wreck; Rei is "the third one"; and Shinji is utterly broken psychologically after having to kill the only person who has offered him unconditional love in the course of the whole series. come the movie? don't worry! it gets worse! ~from the source of all wisdom in the world.

Now if it was done by different directors, then it wouldn't be too bad (unless it ends up being bad, probably 99.1% :cringe: )
