Plug Depth

What does term plug depth (プラグ深度) exactly mean and how it connected to synchronization rate (シンクロ率)?
Could it be an immediate physical regulator between Eva's core unit and it's pilot?

The term refers literally to how deep into the Eva's core the entry plug is inserted.
Note how the plug goes thru the spinal chord right into where the core is located in the cross-section image on the right:

I love that image, get to see 02 from the front for a quick change.

The deeper the plug goes, the better the sync but if you go to far you lose your lilim form and return to LCL within the core of the Unit. So its kinda like "Do good but not toooo good".

They don't. Whenever the plug is inserted, they're heads are hanging and access to the spinal chord is much easier.

That really does show just how large the Eva units are.

There are a few clues in the series about this - there's a scene where the three pilots faces are shown with various degrees of syncs, the images with the lower (further down) faces are more highly synced.

I believe this is ep 12.

There are also comments about "contamination" occuring at lower plug depths, such as when Shinji tests with 00 (ep 14); aldo a comment is made about Kaworu's plug depth being even further than Shinji's, into a danger zone (ep 24).

Another side question, if that is Unit 02...Why do I only see one eye on one side?

I've always been under the impression that the "eyes" we see on the Eva units are actually part of the armor they wear. I think that they all have two eyes, but the armor is different on each unit. I have no idea if this is a legitimate possibility, but you never know....

Nope.

And if you recall, in episode 08, when Unit-02 opens up the jaws of Gaghiel, it's real eyes glow, like with Unit-01, from under the plates. Same with during the Arael mindrape.

EDIT: Yet it appears that some of the failed Unit-00's had two eyes. See top left.

And where do you see an eye? I highly doubt that round mark in the center is an eye. If that is a side shot from a complete 9 o'clock angle, the eye would not be right there.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the "one" that Otakon is seeing, but I did think that two of the the eyes or at least eye sockets would be visible from that angle.

Look below it at the other image, there is clearly an eye where a normal Human eye would be yet I don't see another one on that side.

This is pretty much certainly a single ocular cavity on the left side of the skull:

...and is probably an error. Ocular cavities in humans have rather heavy bone formation, so they should also show up in an "x-ray" of an Eva.

Yes, all we see on the outside of the Eva armor are lenses, though it appears that the number of eye lenses we see does indeed match up to organic eyes of the Eva.

So, the graphic the animator has provided does not match what we know about Eva 02.
