Astro Boy: Western Style
Did anyone see the damn thing? I'm not a fan of Tezuka's original manga or the anime in the first place. And the CG version in theaters looks like a flaming turd of doom. BUT I know a lot of anime fans might've seen it and I'd be curious to see if anyone saw it and has a reaction (besides "It sucked" or "It rocked") because everything I've seen from this film said-
"We're getting as far away as we can from that Japanese thing. But we're keeping the name."
Anywho it flopped massively, costing $65 million to make (not including marketing which might've taken the whole affair over $100 million) and made only $6.7 million in the U.S. on it's opening weekend. It also flopped in Japan as well not even getting into the top 10 because, let's face it, why would they want to see foreigners do their stuff anyways.
On a sidenote, this whole adapting anime for Hollywood is a funny affair cause you can tell some people in the business think it's a good idea (Answer: It isn't) and yet the past year and a half has produced 3 MEGA-FLOPS (Speed Racer, Dragonball Evolution, and now Astro Boy). Even though I am against Live Action Anime in general- and with film budgets being cut left and right a Live Action Evangelion is more improbable than ever, thank lloyd- this whole affair is still a very fascinating one.

It only flopped so far, and let's face it...its the worst time of year for this movie possible.
It might do well on DVD and it might keep on making what it is now for a month or so. See Team America witch faced a similiar problem.
There is also marketing.
I went to see this with my girlfriend and her little brother, and I thought it was pretty good. Not Up good, but better than any non Pixar that's in 3-D. Eventually anime movies will catch on, its just Hollywood needs to release them and market them at least HALF decently.

I honestly don't follow at all animus-being-turned-into-hollywood-flicks phenomenom. I didn't even know Speer Racer was mango originally!

I used to watch the 2003 series back when the BBC aired it, I generally liked it.
I had heard about this film, but I have yet to see much advertisement for it. But then again it's not released for another three months over here.

I saw the trailer for this when I went to go see Zombieland. Before they even said the title, I recognized that it was Astro Boy in godawful CG. I stopped being interested right there. Now, if it had used some form of CG-assisted style of traditional animation, I would have been much more interested, but I think that that style is pretty much dead here for the time being.
I was actually more interested in the Disney movie that's coming out and *isn't* 3D.

I hear the movie had some decent reviews but it looks like it did badly at the box office. It looks like the chances for live action Battle Angel, Cowboy Bebop, Akira, and NGE are very low now.
Maybe NGE, Bebop and akira, but from what I heard Camerons pretty set on doing battle angel, so that one may happen.

I hate mcdonalds because their mascot is a creepy spooky clown who looks like he smells funny. Seriously every time I see ronald I think he's secretly some sort of rapist who turns people into hamburgers. Also their food sucks. -Defectron
Our plumbing is messed up and my dad will not call anybody because he's a cheap asshole. Fuck you old man, fucking call someone. Some of us want to stay sanitary. -backseatjesus

Battle Angel movie has been in works for a while now also. James Cameron said he will work on it again if Avatar does well enough at the box office.

Will Smith is in everything, prove me wrong.
