Misato:"I was unfair with that poor child, and we are using him, and i'm totally disgusting."

She felt guilt over scolding him, IMHO.

Because she wanted to probably slap Shinji but couldn't bring herself to do it. Slapping herself was because she knew she was giving Shinji a hard time, but felt like she had no choice but to.

IMHO, she actually hit the wall out of frustration. Anybody would be upset if they don't get what they want.

I thought she just mimicked slapping Shinji because she couldnt bring herself to do it and the sound affect was just added for dramatic effect

to me it always came across that she slapped herself because she felt like slapping Shinji but she didn't and didn't know if she should have and all the other things she would think of to add to the feelings of self-hate she carries around

So they could make and sell the "Misato Slapping Punch Power Up-U" action figures. One comes in Misato's normal gear. One comes with her in underwear and sluttily bent over. And one comes with her dressed as a mermaid?

I'm completely wrong, but I thought she slapped herself because she felt stupid because she noticed that Shinji was getting what he wanted.

One of my Japanese teachers used to slap herself when she made a mistake in class. The habit stuck with my for a while. Ow.

I kind of agree with SaltyJoe on this one; Misato hit herself because she felt guilty of scolding Shinji. Though, my memory on the scene isn't very clear at the moment.

I always thought that that was one of the more powerful scenes in 1.0. I recognized it as being the point at which she realized she had just said the totally wrong thing, and that she had really hurt him. The slap spoke volumes to me about her guilt over what she had said.

Why can't I for the life of me remember the dialogue that made me realize that, though?
