Anyone going to see the GI Joe live action movie next week? I always enjoy the cartoon series and I think this might be decent.

I might go and see it if I hear good things about it (i.e. "srsly, it's like A TRILLION TIMES better than Transformers!!", etc.)
from people who have similar tastes as I do

my dad, I guess for nostalgia purposes(?), really wants to see it

As a huge fan... obviously.... I want to see it but obviously gonna nit pick all the changes made to the series staples.

Oddly enough the early reviews have all seemed pretty positive sayings it's a fun action packed summer film, though obviously a bit silly and over the top.

Having already read much of the spoilers I know what I will and won't like. Wth did you to my Baroness Sommers!!!!

Lately reports have been trickling in that this movie is better than Trasformers 2 and I should see it now since that AICN has liked it.

It wont take much to be better than Transformers, as that movie is total shit. :asuka_stare: This movie will be an over the top action flick with the usual american hollywood BS, but I'm obligated to see this movie because it has Destro, the Baroness and Snake Eyes in it who are heroes of my childhood. I dont expect much beyond that and some good action sequences.

It looks pretty good, mostly because it looks just like GI Joe. I mean no one could say this movie left out the deeper meanings of the show, because its fucking GI Joe. That being said I probably wont see it till it comes out on dvd (netflix kicks ass)

Do drugs.

Watch crazy shit.

Read a review where the writer said something along the lines of "America, FUCK YEAH" going through their head while watching Paris get blown to Hell. I mean, that just sounds awesome.

It does seem to be more in line with what one expects from a Saturday morning cartoon to movie transfer, and it could have been even sillier if they stuck with following the show too closely.

Not a fan of the costume design though as it looks more cheap than futuristic and really a little color would not have hurt to make the Joes stand out. Scarlett for example could have just been given a Tan shoulder pad and other colored suit parts, while others also getting different markings or something.

They are grabbing bits and pieces of story from the comic books since thats where the real story of the series comes from as the cartoon was really devoid of any character background/development.

Outside of what they are doing they could have went with the serious movie route as have been the comics of late for GI Joe which is more like 24 with heavy firepower.

I thought people would trash this and give it the same rating that DBE got. If this does well then maybe they will do sequels since I hear the game has villains from the old show that does not appear in the movie.

Heh, and IGN's review just went up on their site, giving it a very positive review as well.

All the actors are signed for a sequel already, Sommers plans to start filming the next in Summer of 2010 as long as this one does well.
