I just came back from seeing it and it was tons of fun. I enjoy it a lot since the action was over the top and it was a pop corn flick just like I wanted it to be. Cobra was cool even though he was more like Dr. Claw fused with Drath Vader though. The CGI was crap and the actors where pretty good. Overall I give it a 7.5/10

I have no intention of seeing this, but the movie looks like an aborted Uwe Boll idea.
Awesomely Shitty

-On EMF, as a thread becomes longer, the likelihood that fem-Kaworu will be mentioned increases exponentially.
-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

UGH.
Why else would anyone want to watch a GI JOE movie? Did you expect political drama or romance?
I think the problem with this movie was that it perhaps was too true to it's source material in that it felt like the cartoon come to life. Unlike Transformers which had no resemblance to the cartoon outside of Optimus Prime.
Movie was pretty corny/cheesy since it stayed true to it's roots, but thats gonna put many off who can't accept it's a live action saturday morning cartoon and that they didn't try to mature it up for an older audience. Movie pretty much is gonna be adored by young boys, it's gonna sell toys, it's GI Joe.

I thought the movie was a lot of fun. It definitely felt like the cartoon, in a good way IMHO. The plot ain't gonna make you re-think the nature of good and evil, but it managed to be straightforward and remained focused throughout, unlike Transformers 2 which couldn't seem to make up its mind about where the plot was going and ended up feeling a half hour too long. It managed to bring out my inner child, keeping my eyes glued to the screen as I saw my childhood heroes blasting away the badguys. Not saying it was perfect-- Channing Tatum has about as much personality as tofu, and the special effects were a mixed bag ranging from cool to "is that shot finished?", but I felt the good far outweighed what was lacking. Oh yeah, and Joseph Gordon Levitt kicked ass as The Doctor / Cobra Commander.
I'd say this movie might be a contender for my third favorite movie of the summer. Hardly the third best I've seen, but it gave me a chance to re-live a very influential part of my childhood, and for that it gets kudos from me.
