He ended up with Asuka but there was still tons of internal--this being Shinji--and external conflict before and after he made his choice.

No, I meant that BECAUSE of her work, she's a great writer, but I guess that's part of your joke. :toothy:

She erased her works from the internet, so nobody will ever know but a few of us.

That's sad for her. There are so many utterly crappy fics out there that got praised to kingdom come by large numbers of people . . . guess the art of online friend-making is a must-have for anyone who put fics online.

Maybe not, but in some cases it can be fun. :3

And it's a pity Sailor StarDust doesn't write anymore. I'd love to read her stuff, especially now that I know she writes original work, too.

^quickly becoming in my mind the last word in Evangelion prequels. The first couple of chapters are pretty much exactly what the first 15 minutes of the LAEM should be.

Diverges from canon and incorporates characters from Deus Ex and Ghost in the Shell, but still looks like it could segue nicely into canon episode 1. Failing to do that wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, either.
The Weaver - Shinji and a Mad Spider God.
The Foregone Conclusion - Two years into a seemingly endless Angel War.
Wake Up, Ikari! - Wake. The Fuck. UP.
Branching Paths - Specifically 1B, 3B, 6A. Shinji goes crazy and kills a bunch of chinstrap geese.
Beneath, Shinji deals with a ten-year timeskip.

Gob Hobblin is like this fanfic GOD who both writes well and updates fast. Bless him for doing the Ten Years series, which in my mind is good enough to be the authentic NGE continuation.

I was reading that off and on, but when he got rid of psycho Rei I stopped caring. Don't give a shit about the adventures of gun porn Asuka or Rei-in-name-only.

I want to write, at some point, a continuation. That is to say, it continues after End of Evangelion. I have a very vague plot. And a few random ideas, alright only like two. The main issue is how they get into space. How can they get into space? Hijack one of those harpies lying around? That's ridiculous. Mkae something out of LCL? That sounds awfully difficult. Use the Black Moon? That makes a bit more sense, though I had an idea of them flying around in a harpy with a wooden palace on its back. And why on surreal earth would Shinji want to go into space? Find Yui? He seemed pretty fine with letting her leave. Eh, perhaps the Seele fellow could go on his own. Would Asuka go with him? But even if they did, Shinji wouldn't meet Yui, though he still could be developing into a sage on surreal earth.

I would say the question is whether or not you work best with planning, or simply doing: George R. R. Martin calls it the difference between an 'architect' and a 'gardener.' That being said, I would argue to be a 'gardener' in this case. Just start writing the story, with that vague theme in mind (I want them in space). As you start writing, and the characters and world take shape, the need and the way should present themselves: of course, that's if you work better as a 'gardener.'

As for how, this is a world in which a physical god can be grown: an entity that can be anywhere at anytime it wills. That being said, if you want to use a Harpy flying through space with a wooden palace grafted onto it, I say go with it: the image is haunting, surreal, and gives you flexibility to do some amazing psychological or thematic stories. As for the why: why have that now? With a MacGuffin, all you need is a hook, and the 'why' can be discovered yourself, along with your protagonists.

After peeking into a thread on this site to find a picture of Shinji kissing Hikari in one of the Sega Saturn games, I was hit by an idea.

Did anyone ever write a story where Shinji finds himself the victim of a dare stating that he has to kiss a predefined number of girls? Failing that, a harem story where his harem doesn't include any of the adults?

I hate harems but Shinji/Hikari doesn't get enough love.

Agreed.

How do people feel about Mega-crossovers? Also, what are general pros and cons to stories where Shinji gets a backbone?

Pro: he's more likable (to me, at least).

Con: amateur writers usually go overboard with it to the point he's no longer likable. Case in point is the Shinji/Asuka fic titled Father: Shinji being protective of her is one thing, but Shinji donning a suit and sunglasses then doing his best Gendo Ikari impression TO THE MAN HIMSELF?! Granted, Gendo did compliment him about it afterwards, but STILL.

3.0 seems to state Anno's own opinion on the matter. I can't say any more than that.

If you're going to give Shinji a backbone, do it in a crackfic. An example would be him getting adopted by Kamina after Yui's death.

People tend not to cotton on to them being crack fics unless you ram it into the audience's face, as I have learned from personal experience.

Assuming you can give a good reason for Shinji getting a backbone, though, it can be a very satisfying turn of events...the question is how (if you're keeping the story close to canon) could a character as damaged as Shinji get the sand to be a little more assertive, or if what you're writing is a complete AU: in that case, there's no limit to the changes one can make to any or all character's personalities. I would say the latter is easier than the former, as the former often requires a lot of subtle manipulation of events or people to produce the results desired.
