I've tried using Search and Google for this but "Asuka" is too common a word and keeps screwing it up:

I've heard that the reason the theory that "Asuka" at the end of the movie is really a mix of her and all the major female characters, was disproven, is because the "cel animation" for that shot (before it was shaded) clearly shows that her eye is "blue" and not really "brown"

does someone have a link to a pic of that cel animation on-hand? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

That's not the screenshot, that's the image that was provided on the Collector's Disc. This was the same image that was used on the card.

Note that most, if not all, of the Collector's Disc images for EoE are affected by oversaturated colors and super-high contrast. Disappointing, really.

Wellll, you never know. I had to hear the "Asuka has brown eyes like Misato and bandages like Rei and is therefore a composite of all three!" thing on more than one occasion before AWL decided to put it on record that she'd heard about it, too. And there are still some ancient misconceptions that haven't been publicized like this one and still manage to crawl out of the deeps now and then. Granted, they are probably on the whole more of the "independently arising again and again" sort and less the "memetic monster" sort.

But... just sayin'.

I would dismiss the idea even if Asuka did have brown eyes at the end. The theory turns on its head everything that had just happened right up to that point, i.e. the return of AT Fields, and thus everyone's individualty. It's a theory that only appeals to people who were paying no attention at all to what was actually being said and shown in the previous ten minutes of the movie.

Indeed. If Asuka for some strange reason DID have brown eyes, one could, of course, propose various other bullshit-explanations for precisely why. E.g., Asuka for some reason "imagined herself in her heart" as having brown eyes, so that's how she came back.

If 3I ever happens, and fails, I'm going to try imagining myself into having brown eyes, too, just to see if it works.
