After looking at that funky Unit-05 figure pic, I think that the odd thing on its back is a flip-up head protector/firing scope. Sort of like how Shinji had his tageting visor in 1.0. If unit 05 is a long range assault unit it would make sense for it to not have normal hands or arms. I know I'm pulling an old-school refrence out of the air here, but it could be the Eva answer to the Macross destroid. The odd physique does remind me of the Tommakawk/excaliber/warhammer design from macross/robotech/battletech.

This new Eva-01 Revoltech is likely part of the new "Revoltech 3.0 Reboot" line. Will perhaps have a greater range of motion than previous Revos.

Reichu wrote:since this is Eva-05 and all, and therefore batshit crazy, maybe she swaps in various weapons for limbs or something...

Quite possible. Take a look at this diagram from ANIMA (I got this from TMBounty_Hunter's scans - thankyou, TMBH). This is Zero configured to utilise the Type-F equipment (in this case, the 'Angel's Spine' field sinker [syncer?] weapon). The arm and leg are amputated to accommodate the weapon itself and a stabiliser. There was a "Type-F" trading figure set released at the end of 2006 which features this design for Zero (picture of the blue 'secret' version repaint).

Two words - ouch and eeurrrggh. The amount of modification that go into producing a normal Eva is icky enough without there being a bunch of amputee units. Seeing as there seems to be multiple Eva-00s in Anima it's possible that the Zero in that diagram remains like that, and doesn't have normal limbs switched in to allow for close combat. This would be similar to the specialised nature that Eva-05 seems to have. The protrusion where 05's entry plug hatch would be looks to have a prog dagger blade mounted on it - unless it swings out over the head like a scorpion's tail (which wouldn't be very useful IMO) how does the Eva utilise this? Can't grab the blade without hands.

It's difficult to understand the function of that element behind the head, even considering that it appears a little different in the trailers...more "vertical". Any ideas about the legs?

Looks like 05 is just a glorified sentry turret to me. Probably a safe bet the tripod legs terminate at wheel bases (with stabilisers that extend when it's stopped to fire).

So, i am not the only supporter of the "wheeled" theory about unit-05...btw thank you for the better pic, now the design of the front right "leg" is visible....absolutely mecha...

Awesome RiotGear! Thanks for the enlarged pic. And your right Ingraman, it seems like a three legged Eva Unit 05 seems to be ever
more probable.

Nice tripod legs Eva Unit 05! :toothy:

Of course the pictures of unit05 from revoltech support the theroy that this is the pilot of unit 05 complete with advanced targetting helmet for long range combat. As it stands that is the only reason we have ever seen the pilots wear a helmet in evangelion; for when they are targetting something out in the atmosphere or at range. Perhaps unit 05 goes through a similar exspereience to Asuka when she was mind raped.

The configuration of unit-05 is compatible with some kind of "mobile launch system", however the scenes where she appears are extremely dark...they really seem underground...and the other dark scenes involve Zeruel and a row of tanks (maybe hit by the same angel). Even the designation of the Unit that appears in the poster reminds some kind of "last defence line" against an almost succesfull enemy. BTW the extremely dark atmosphere could be caused by some kind of angelic attack. Or it's simply a night battle...

So I got bored and took an image into Flash and it came out like this...I image the new Eva to look something along these lines and I got bored and didn't make the other arm.

Image

Some kind of wheels to move around on..I rather it have legs and arms cause I think it could be a pretty cool looking Eva Unit if they did.

@Otakon 08 Ikari human-like legs are a little scaring...however not bad at all for a bored time.
I'm curious about how they connected an EVA torso with the mecha structure.

P.S. i think i don't want to know where the third leg is connected with the rest of the body in your fanart....

Geez, this thing just keeps getting more and more fugly. 05, I wish you a quick death.

Mari, on the other hand, looks like a catholic school girl with beatnik sensibilities. Groovy.

It actually looks like there are FOUR legs. Shitty markup to show, if nothing else, where the "feet" are roughly located:

Image

Arms amputated to make way for a swappable arsenal? Check. (Can't hands, like, HOLD weapons? Aren't arms serviceable and versatile enough that they really aren't worth getting rid of?)

Lower limbs replaced with bizarre 4-legged roller-footed mechanical array? Check.

Nerv scientists responsible for this contrived abomination scheduled for sacking? Check.

There must be barely anything organic left.

Obviously the new pilot is going to be some kind of insect, and they had to make the Eva suit it.

It's head seems so tiny.

I guess this Eva really is Provisional since it seems like the NERV scientists built it over a weekend.

It seems like it would take MORE work to make all of those modifications. This is, of course, going by my biology-nerd presumption that one must first generate an organic being, and THEN hack of its limbs and replace them with mechanical hoozafudge.

Exempting the notion that they intentionally engineered a limbless Eva and generated what looked like a quadruple-amputee from the start... XP

Assuming these general assessments are in any way correct, Eva-05 just shrieks of "impractical gimmick" (in a universe where the normal Evas are "practical and multi-purpose").

Ingraman wrote:The configuration of unit-05 is compatible with some kind of "mobile launch system"

Apparently Eva-05 just rolls around like a Tachikoma. That's probably what she's doing here, in fact.

They built it from spare crap lying around.

Of course this is all me in joke.

Now here's my two hypothesis's for this disturbingly pimped out Eva:

HYPOTHESIS ONE:
Looking back at the film's poster which seems to sketch out a rough narrative chronology for the film I'm thinking Film 2.0 is going to open up with this Mystery Eva (it's a common practice in multi-film narratives to open the later films with an event away from the core cast).
All hypothesis at the moment but I can't see this Eva at all fitting into further acts of the narrative. If what we're seeing does represent the actual Eva it's too....well...provisional. Maybe it could represent a flawed mistake that the NERV scientist tried to do with taking the Evas down another path.

Regardless, on the poster it mentions the Third Angel, Betania Base, Evangelion Unit 05, and Task 2.
Maybe, just maybe Eva 05 is strictly built to act out "Task 2" on the captured Third Angel at "Betania Base". And the poor misguided Eva is crushed in a spectacular opener to the film by the mystery Angel which will only be glimpsed. Making us go DAMN, that Angel is gonna kick ass in 3.0!!

HYPOTHESIS TWO:

Looking at the wheel treads and thinking it over for a second, all these signs on Evangelion Unit 05 point towards anti-gravity work. As in work on the MOON. Of course this kinda goes in hand with my first hypothesis since I also believe the under development Evangelion Mark/Mach 06 is the Third Angel. (Isn't Mark/Mach a commonly used technological term for the next generation up? Wouldn't it make sense the next step up for an Eva from an imitation of an Angel is to an ACTUAL Angel?)

So yeah, I see Evangelion Unit 05 (if these tires and spread out legs are real) being strictly used for work in space devoid of gravity. You'd be a lot faster on the moon with tires than with feet.

Some food for thought there; the idea about Eva-05 being another Moon Eva is interesting. Though, it raises additional questions, since that mysterious visored girl is implicated to be the pilot, and she is probably Mari, and Mari needs to be on Earth about halfway through the movie.

Plot hypothesing is a bit beyond this thread's scope, by the way.

True true. My bad. Kinda rambled there.

But the more I think about this Eva being a moon based one the more practical sense it makes. I'm not sure what role it could play on the moon in part with the whole narrative but at the moment I'm gonna latch onto Space Eva.

All very interesting points brought up here. Who could have thought that a TOY figurine would spark so much speculation! :toothy: But yeah being that Eva Unit 05 is a "provisonal" unit - Provisional meaning serving only for the time being (temporary service)- perhaps it really is the most experimental of all the Eva Units.

No longer is Eva Unit 01 the weirdest of all Evas. LOL.

By the way when the revoltech figures do come out it would be great if people could start posting photos of their Revoltech Rebuild Eva figures here. THis is afterall the Rebuild of Eva Revoltech thread.

I'm also guessing that these three figures won't be the last of the Rebuild Eva figures. We're still missing Eva Unit 03 and 06. Possibly Unit 04 as well if Gainax and Kaiyodo are that desperate.

I figure Unit 06 is the 4th "Mystery Eva Figure" mentioned that is missing from the picture.

Possibly Unit 04 as well if Gainax and Kaiyodo are that desperate.

Khairax, more like it. And we can probably count in an Eva-04, since we've already seen a version with the Rebuild color scheme in the "Final Messenger" pachinko game.

Gendo'sPapa wrote:I figure Unit 06 is the 4th "Mystery Eva Figure" mentioned that is missing from the picture.

Eva-06 doesn't seem like she's going to feature too heavily in this film, so an "action figure exposition" seems too soon. At the same time, that leaves the question open of "why bother not revealing all four of the figures at once?".
