Of Course Evangelion is flawed!
Are you going to try to tell me there has been a single perfect work in all the history of mankind? Everything we create is fundamentally flawed in one way or another, that doesn't keep is from being wonderful.
Evangelion is a beautiful masterpiece of tradgedy, herosim, and ceommentary on the human condition but it is flawed? Of Course it is! Nothing achives perfection, we only strive for it, and in that struggle, inspiration is born.
To put it another way, if Evangelion was perfect (Unflawed in the most literal sense) would anybody still like it?

True true. But what about those people convinced they are firmly in stage four?OMF wrote:We all like to think we're at some kind of transition between stage three and four, but the reality is we're all just osscilating back and forth between two and three.

Well, I guess they look kind of silly. Thinking one can ever understand 100% of anything is fairly foolish. What's more important? Deriving enjoyment from the show and taking away a message about humanity? Or trying to force every peice of the puzzle into sometihng "coherent" and losing site of the original meaning?

well now, how can we be sure the children will live fulfilling lives with two eva nuts as parents? when will they be subjected to evangelion?
really eva is my favorite series, of course it has flaws, i just have a hard time being so uberfanatical about any series. i try to understand it as well as anyone here, i spend more time on this board than any other. so seele and reichu, help me develop that fanatical thing you gals have.

You're going to be a busy body.
I'm hoping for an artificial womb to come along soon. drgenestarwind, not even I'm as fanatical as Reichu, she's the biggest eva fanatic known to man. I'm just defensive about it.

Regarding this...

...is there some reason why NGE shouldn't eventually make sense?
For my part, I honestly feel that I am currently a mixture of "Stages" Three and Four, skepticism aside. I created the four steps and chose the images based on my own geekage, so... Yeah, I have really done that "crying in bliss" thing. "How embarassing."
But don't get too worked up. I made them primarily for amusement purposes.

You can understand it, but you need to realize a few things.
Anno is a man not a messiah.
Anno did not jam pack EVERY ruddy scene with a double meaning.
Anno did things just for the coolnes of the look for feel of the moment.
Anno made mistakes, some he coved up ( like the plug suit bit ), and others he just left lay ( Angel boy was ment to have a lot bigger part overall. )

Hence why the caption read, "finally starts making sense", as opposed to, "finally makes 100% sense". Anno is the only one who will understand it *COMPLETELY*. Although I should emphasize, everything that he wanted to impart to us will be in there. I have yet to encounter a single reason to doubt the veracity of his "NGE is like a puzzle" statement. Why would he say this if he did not intend for us to take it to heart?
@DatDude: I disagree with much of that. I think you have misinterpreted my own views in many ways. Also, broad generalizations about NGE are as harmful here as with any other subject.

What about the other staff to contributed somewhat?

He should've given those to contributed(storywise) a collective pen name, like Tomino did for Sunrise contributers( Hajime Yatate).
Then again, I don't know exactly how much everyone did...
Why would he say this if he did not intend for us to take it to heart?
He knew otaku , being one himself, would.

Neither is there a need to with the Bible nowadays. But people want to(and it can be informative when results are yielded)
The value of discovery is relative.

Obvious.
There's no need to even try to dig this deep into it.
Then don't. kthxbai
The depth isn't there.
If that's how you feel, then that's fine. Reichu feels otherwise so she'll continue to pursue it. Why discourage her?
It's a deeper cartoon than most,
Pretty easy considering most anime doesn't try to be deep.
but it's no War and Peace.
Yeah but War and Peace is no Jeremiah Was a Bullfrog.
