This is a simple little poll to gauge the opinion of members of this forum.

Is Evangelion flawed?

In essence, the notion exists that Evangelion is an extremely well thought out creation, without flaws or errors, and that what appears to be error is in actuality very intentional on the part of the production, with the primary sources presenting all the critical information necessary to explain the truth and reality of the series.

The dissenting opinion is that Evangelion, like any other creative work, is limited to the boundaries of the human mind, something that is intrinsically flawed, regardless of how few or many minds are put towards the process. While indeed a work of genius, Evangelion suffers from the same ills of any other creative works, such as continuity errors, bloopers, and production oversights.

Please avoid using this thread as a means of personal attack. You may state your opinion if you like, but please keep it as civil as possible to avoid possible action by moderators.

Evangelion has flaws, some intentional others not so. These flaws tend to become a nuisance then at times creates a cumbersome conversation.

I don't know of a single unflawed production - live action, animated or otherwise. Nobody's perfect. Some people just make fewer mistakes than others.

Curious.

When I think of flaws, I think of them as unintentional, unless someone was maliciously attempting to flaw something.

Can you provide an example of an intentional flaw in Evangelion? And also, a possible reason why that intentional flaw was made?

Sometimes in literature, an author will make what is called an "anomaly" making a character a little OOC to provide depth or intrigue, Hamlet is well known for this device.
Also, whether or not his is relevant. Both the Amish and Navajo cultures believe in adding in a flaw to their art so as not to offend their dieties. Its kind of interesting really. BTW where I live its common to see Amish buggies.....and wait for them in traffic.

Solid Snake, I love your avatar. This forum needs more Big-O avatars, not to mention a thread of its own.

Depends, if I find that the character's likability went down hill after episode 14 or so, is that a flaw? To me, personally, it'd be a flaw. But others might just "just cuz u...", and then I'd have no response, because people that say "u" are annoying.

Also with the continuity errors that have been pointed out(that some claim are intentional for whatever reason), I can say, with 100% confidence that it's flawed.

Not a big deal. Every anime is flawed. I don't look for perfection in anime, because it doesn't exist, and I can live with that.

Of course, there are numerous continuity errors and nothing human is without flaw.

"Nobody's poyfect," as they say, heh heh. Though poking fun at the flaws in Eva is perhaps my favorite part of the whole thing, so methinks it's a matter of perspective. Image

It would be absoludicrous and fanboyish (to say the least) for anyone to claim anything they like is flawless. The idea that anyone would even consider the "argument" that something is flawless is pure folly.

Of course Evangelion is flawed, just like everything else that exists.

I think "flaws" is too general a term because like others have said all human creations have flaws by nature.

Maybe it would be more appropriate to think about its flaws within a context or contexts.

Not to mention Gendo's insta-clean clothes and his office that remains undamaged even when it's destroyed. Gendo is clearly a magical schoolgirl.
