A remake or a sequel?

Okay...
After reading some posts I am really thrown off.

Isn't Rebuild of Evangelion just a re-telling of Evangelion WITH added twists?!
How can it be a sequel given all the crap that happen after EoE?

EDIT 05/27/2010:
I made this thread when I was a noobie. I do not believe Rebuild is a sequel.

welcome

the idea is that in the twist ending of Rebuild of Eva 1, there's still what appears to be blood splattered on the Moon from the death of the Rei/Lilith hybrid during End of Eva.

On top of that, the oceans are LCL-colored throughout the movie, and further, *depending on the translation* Kaworu at the end seems to say "the Third Child hasn't changed...I look forward to meeting you Shinji...AGAIN"

Long story short, 1 of 2 options:

1-Third Impact reboots the world

2-(What I believe) Original-Shinji and Original-Asuka are left to repopulate the Earth. Civilization restarts after thousands of years. Generations later, Rebuild-Shinji and Rebuild-Asuka are their distant descendants, and basically "time is moving in a circle"

similar to in the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series when a cylon character believes that "all of this has happened before and all of it will happen again", basically that time is cyclical and the same story gets retold again and again, using the same "actors" but the roles might get jumbled around (i.e. in this instance he is a prisoner being interrogated, but in the last time cycle both he and his captor were exactly there again, but their roles were reversed and she was the prisoner, the the interrogator)

if this theory holds true, yeah I am expecting them to show Original-Shinji and Original-Asuka "near the sea of LCL", as "flashback" at some point

A true sequel would start off with Shinji and Asuka by the sea of LCL.
Eventually the humans who had the will to live would come back and SOMEHOW society would start again.

Not necessarily. Some fans like to think it's a sequel because of the possibility time was reset. There are holes in the sequel theory since Maya stated in the first movie that the LCL(?) Sea was from Second Impact.

Good evening SSD ^_^;;

I do not believe that the children repopulate the world..I mean even for Eva that is a little far and that's saying something.

I do not know just what is going on but..Maybe..Man I don't know they pushed time backwards or something or maybe its one of the many alternate realities or something. All I know is it has more Kaworu which should be good and maybe Eva 04.

Shinji and Asuka could not have become the new Adam and Eve as many fans believe. Yui had said if a human wanted to come back to life they have to feel it in there heart or something similar.

And I'm sure Shinji and Asuka are not the only people who wanted to live.

It'll be funny when the rest of the Rebuild films (whenever the hell those would come out) put to rest this whole sequel theory.

I think it's just a re-telling just with plot twists and filled plot holes.

Oh yeah....the expanded version of that is: "....any maybe others like Hikari and Toji came back too".....but the point is that most people might have NOT come back; only those with the "will to live", and (Lord of the Flies) they try to restart civilization

I highly doubt they alone could just re-populate the entire planet.

I think what V's trying to say is that a lot more people than just those four came back, and then they started to rebuild (omg!) society.

Though I don't subscribe to this.

They started to rebuild the set-up of the original plot, you mean. Although the logistics are pretty mind-numbing (and by "mind-numbing" I mean "would only work in really bad fanfics").

As I previously mentioned, I think the idea's bollocks. So I've no idea of the logistics other than what V said.

"'Eva' is a story that repeats." --Anno

If this phrase is taken literally, then Rebuild could be a repetition. I can imagine that Second Impact somehow created rip in the space-time continuum that spawned an infinite number of alternate universes that feature similar plot points that have been arranged in different order. Thus explaining the differences between the many incarnations of Eva.

But most likely it is a revision of the original series (considering ithe fact that it is called Rebuild instead of Redo).

Who are "some people"? Are "some people" actually "refusing outright", or are their opinions being misrepresented?
