RahXephon Official Complete - http://animenation.com/4840110190.html

As it's name suggests, this reference guide completely covers the RahXephon anime TV series with full color character guides, episode guides, monochrome production art galleries, a catalog of RahXephon goods, and even a lengthy interview with RahXephon director Yutaka Izubuchi and Evangelion creator Hideaki Anno.

My emphasis. In Nihongo, not English, alas.

More like "EVA : the Next Generation", to my analysis - but certainly a show which has elicited, well, shall we say, much fan controversy about its visual, thematic, and other similarities to Eva (and many other preceding anime that make up their common heritage).

I've heard its an eva knock off show not really worth the time to watch. This true? I've scene that first ep and couldn't get into it, and advice on if I should look further?

It's not, and it really is worth it. About the only thing they have in common is the "young male pilots giant Robot against aliens" theme. And we all know how unique that is to eva. Hell, if you don't like the story watch it for the art. Every single episode of RahXephon is movie quality, and it really does have a styel all it's own. It's quite beautiful.

As to that dvd, will the interviews be subtitled?

And the music too.

The Anno interview is in a book, not on a DVD.

Ever heard of this Anno fellow before? I think he has something to do with Evangelion.
The purpose of writing is to inflate weak ideas, obscure poor reasoning, and inhibit clarity. With a little practice, writing can be an intimidating and impenetrable fog!

And what does Anno writing on Rahxephon have to do with Evangeion, other than Anno saying "Izubuchi, man, you totally ripped off my series."

Rahxephon didn't rip off Evangelion, just like Evangelion didn't rip off Ideon. (Not Sarcasm).

er....it was a joke.....I'm mean the similarities are there, but you can compare just about anything, so it's a null point.

The point Anatrok was clearly trying to make is that little that Anno can say is relevant to discussion of RahXephon. I don't think that rip-off is an appropriate term either, most mecha anime references at least some other mecha anime. It's not a rip-off just because they are similiar.

RahXephon is an Eva clone, to be sure. But it's a damn good Eva clone. It has it's own things that make it worth watching.

Did you not read this thread? It's hate-speech against other anime to say that this is an Eva-clone, when not even fully 40% of Eva is original. It's totally unwarranted, even if true, because the last thing ANYone with half a braincell wants is to do ANYthing that might start some kind of fanboy war. Little enough danger of that here, I admit, but some restraint might still be in order.

The words "Rip-off" are not words that any anime fan should be able to feel secure enough to use.

Yes, I did read the entire thread before posting.

Please forgive me for having my own opinion on the matter.

Then please forgive ME for thinking that your opinion is wrong. If you watch every damn mecha-anime back to the beginning of time, what you will find is visual and story elements which crop up time after time. The individual writers and directors who made the shows would learn things from each other, borrow, adapt and make their own new shows a fusion of the best elements they had seen, in combination with new and orginal elements. This process does not mean that any anime ripped off any other anime, it just means that originality is a far more scarce commodity than you seem to think.

Watch MSG 0079 sometime, and see where Shinji really came from. Then watch a bunch of other mech stuff, and you'll realise how unfair it is to label RahXephon an "Eva clone" - it's not because it's RahXephon, it's because of the principle of the thing. Being Influenced by something does not mean that you are ripping that thing off.

You mustn't be so defensive about such ignorant and trivial things. You won't see 40.

_you can't do anything, so don't even try
_get some help
_don't do what sonic does
