Pardon me, I've only got back into Eva recently so I completely missed the first Rebuild movie until a few months ago, so I had ample time to get a hold of a subtitled film.

How long after the official release date of the movie did you guys watch it, without going to Japan? With subtitles, since they take a while to make. I'm assuming of course you guys used a "peer sharing program" to get the movie.

Create a new thread for that if you must; it doesn't belong here, and I'm not splitting a single post from a 17-page thread.

short answer: the day after it came out on DVD there were something like 1,200+ torrent seeders.

However, somehow, somewhere in Japan, after it came out in theaters in September 2007, someone pointed a camera on a tripod (or something) at a screen (probably someone working at a theater?)....creating a "camrip".

This camrip was of low bootleg visual quality, but the audio was great and the quality decent enough....considering that it *wasn't even on DVD in Japan yet*

fans scrambled to make fansubs (the good old days all over again!) post 'em on THAT BOARD, etc. and ultimately, we had a fansubbed camrip of the film by January of 2009.....5 months before it even hit the streets in Japan.

Of course, most of the point of Rebuild 1.0 is that the visuals have been updated; in the original series they do the usual thing of TV series skimping on certian visuals, but Rebuild is movie-quality animation. Problem is that that isn't readily apparent on a poor-quality camrip.

Nonetheless it gave us all a fairly good idea of everything they've changed. The result being that by Aprilish, we'd run out of stuff to talk about :) because they hadn't changed that much, just a few critical things.

Well, giving a bone to this sorry "thread," I saw it when the rip and subtitles were readily available on that board. I don't remember exactly when that was though.

Watched the camrip a few days after it was first "released" subbed.

In other words, you just saw the first five minutes.

That doesn't count.

No nested quotes.

......(yikes) the ENTIRE point is that the first 15 minutes aren't drastically different, so as not to SCARE OFF fans who hate it when they change things...then the last half hour changes ALL SORTS OF THINGS!

but on general principle....I mean we use the phrase "5 minutes" but you literally left after 5 minutes and didn't even hear them out?!

^ That applies to you too. Quote only the last person you're referring to and don't quote the preceding post in full.

Okay. Maybe not 5 minutes. I left when little bitch is told he/she has to pilot the Eva. Then it occured to me that I already know what's going to happen, and that I don't need to see it REDONE IN HIGH-DEFINITION!!! *echo echo*

Yes you did.

Anno's directing in this movie just makes Evangelion feel like a much more epic experience in my opinion. Not only that, but I'm extremely interested in how he's going to work the next few movies, seeing as the storyline becomes almost completely different after the first movie.

Rumour I heard is that Funimation have the license... but that's a bit second hand. Supposedly they've been sending CaD's to fansub groups.

Haven't seen anything about it on ANN or otherwise though, so y'know... it might just be rumour.

It's very second hand...

Storm of Dragons on Evamade got it, and I think he got it from 4chan. Yeah. It's gone through more mouths than the village whore, but it seems possible.

Found the /m/ thread...

Evangelion 1.0 "Licenced" Lolfang !fDm0Bv5iXQ 11/22/08(Sat)01:15 No.2293207

Dear Staff,

We can confirm that FUNimation Entertainment has obtained an agreement authorizing FUNimation to act on behalf of NTV to prevent infringement on specific titles.
The authorization agreement for NTV is for:

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone—alt: Evangelion: Rebuild of Evangelion

Though these series have not been licensed to a local distributor in North America, it is important to note that the rights owned by Japanese producers are still applicable, and enforceable, worldwide.

One behalf of NTV, please drop Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone—alt: Evangelion: Rebuild of Evangelion and remove all torrents from torrent tracker sites and your irc channel, direct download sites and other places use to distribute the fansub.

Here is the DMCA notification for Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone—alt: Evangelion: Rebuild of Evangelion.

November 21, 2008

After that is a long string of legaleze. I hope you watched it while you could.

http://zip.4chan.org/m/res/2293207.html :Be gone in a day or so mind... but here it is.

So it's not a license as such, more 'acting on behalf of'... but it seems possible.
