Was Asuka fetish fuel for anyone else?
I now have a thing for tsunderes solely because of Asuka. Hell, my current crush is basically a shorter Asuka with black hair and slightly darker skin.
I get the feeling I'm not the only one who Eva had such an... ahem, profound effect on. So, I'm asking EGF.

In before "Asuka isn't really a tsundere".
Asuka's status as fetish fuel is an old and sad state of affairs that we don't need a confessionals thread to demonstrate.

Your girlfriend wants to kill her self do to finding herself meaningless as she could be easily replaced, while at the same time having both hatered and sexual interest in her father?!?
Fucked up dinner conversations, but probally excellant in bed.

She's got a wonderful personality once you get through her shell. First dates would be more like Rei, a lot of blushing, turning away and remaining quiet. But once everybody becomes comfortable, she's a Misato, hopping into your arms for you to carry her into Barnes & Nobles.

She kinda is. She acts like a total jerkass towards everyone (tsuntsun), but we can tell from the information given in the series that she harbors romantic feelings towards Shinji (deredere).

Your girlfriends are "side dishes" for Shinji.

Asuka isn't really a tsundere.
That aside, tsundere is the love/hate thing directed mostly at the love interest. While Shinji being Asuka's (sort-of) love interest, she really only directs the hatred side to Shinji and never shows him the crush.

...Hehehe.
As for my opinion, trying to say that Asuka being fetish fuel is like trying to say the sky is blue.

Hmm, is that why my thread about people taking NGE too far and "Toji" got locked? Because if it is, I understand.
Back on topic, even though she doesn't fit with the archetype, I think Asuka was at least one of the earliest examples of a tsundere. As a matter of fact, I think the reason why we even have those characters nowadays is because so many have been "inspired" by her - just like why we have SO MANY GODDAMN Rei clones in nearly every anime these days.
Yeah, so with that many "clones" out there, there's definitely a fetish for her...

i know some Asuka's in my school, but they're more asshole than good-looking, though. and i'm not talking about my ex girlfriends. they're a little different. I promised myself that I would not compare my girlfriends to anyone or anything, and that they would exist as independent experiences, not as something to be compared to.

i don't know what a tsundere is, but Asuka is warmingly arrogant during the "munch munch sandwich scene", enough to make Shinji smile, and Asuka doesn't stop this. perhaps she is getting blinded by looking at the sun, or perhaps she doesn't mind, or doesn't care. idano.
excluding that scene, i don't think she fits what a tsundere is. firstly, she pilots Eva to show the world how cool she is. that just screams egomaniac, and not somebody with a "spiky personality but actually modest and loving". One can call what Asuka and Shinji did at the conclusion of EoE as "modest" or "loving", though...depending on the interpretation.

Ive met a few hot 'Asuka' girls although their not worth the effort tbh, high strung girls like that are good for short passionate relationships at best.
Asuka is tsundere in the way that she treats Shinji like shit but deep down needs him to balence her own emotions out.

There is quite a bit they have in common... and I don't mean just the way they comb their bangs, color preferences, or taste in men. Both have intimacy issues because of childhood abandonment issues and trauma. Both are highly intelligent, driven individuals who have no compunction breaking rules or hurting others to get things done they see as needed. Both are fond of verbal teasing though neither can take a come-back very well due to relatively fragile egos. Neither has any domestic skills to speak of but are willing and able to use their looks to make others handle such details. Both have outgoing, flirtatious personalities and prefer friends who are intelligent, authoritative, but not really competition for the spotlight... and with whom they are reluctant to share anything personal. Both disapprove of the romantic choices of those friends and vehemently deny their own attractions when asked by said friends. Both are likely to resort to threats of (or actual) violence to resolve problems and are quite capable of backing up their mouths. Both are willing to volunteer for suicidally ridiculous risks to life and limb if it will accomplish their immediate goals.
That enough for you?

Rei vs Asuka
If I ever met Asuka and had to be stuck with her, chances are I might slap her because I can't really stand her insensitive personality.
Rei, on the other hand, would lead to very very awkward silences. However, I still believe Rei is a better candidate.
And what did AyanamiOtaku mean by the "Munch munch sandwich scene"?

When Asuka and Shinji are on the balcony:
Episode 9 wrote:Asuka (OFF):
Since it's come to this, I'll show up both Rei and Misato!
Shinji:
You don't have to show them up or anything.
Asuka:
You're being too easy on them! You're a man, aren't you?!
For their attack...
on my pride...
I'll pay them back ten times over!
