I don't whether to be impressed or appalled at this. Because even some of the other DB movies are better than this and GT is way out. I hope this would be a fun thing to watch and also I hope they don't do the same thing with the EVA movie (if it ever comes) and the Akira movie.

Speed Racer looked too much like a drug trip in its trailers. I'm pretty sure that when trailers are made, they put the best of the movie in them, but damn, Speed Racer looked terrible. Those trailers hurt my eyes.

DB:E is probably gonna be another Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li. Some fans will see it, but after the meager influx from them, the ticket sails will plummet from the paltry initial base.

Speed Racer was good though

I still want to check this out since the review from Aint Cool news was decent. The movie has a 6.2/10 on IMDB.

The way DB: E turned out and the ratings and what not support my reasoning for not wanting a live action EVA.

So I just watched most of the film online from a camrip (no way in bloody Crucified Christ would I pay to see this travesty) and while it had 1/100th of my attention at the time I have to say....

Super Mario Brothers has new competition for lamest and most unfaithful adaptation EVER.

Anyone else here see the wonder that is Dragonball: The Magic Begins? It is surprisingly good, and relatively faithful to the beginning on the Dragonball series.

I didn't mean it was faithful to the original series.

It was a fun ride though, and if you disagree your inner child has died.

No I enjoyed the original speed racer. Even today I enjoy a lot of old cartoons. Hell I even enjoy Popeye now and again, and the live film adaption of that was great also, but the speed racer movie I did not like. It appeals more to a much younger audience and I know there are few people who know of the original speed racer and still enjoyed the live action adaption. I simply did not. But just because I didn't like doesn't mean my inner child ain't alive and kickin'.

This topic is derailing.

Basically the film is insulting.

And this is coming from someone who's not a Dragonball fan at all. I've watched the first 100 or so episodes of DBZ (up to Trunks killing Frieza than lost interest once I knew every villain was MORE POWERFUL, I mean you reach a limit at some point) but have never seen an episode of Dragonball so I don't know much really.

The film is just....well, now remember this is from a camrip, but on a technical level it's just atrocious. Effects were third rate, editing was a joke, and the pacing was wonky. It made little sense. Goku seems to study martial arts with his grandfather at a dojo/suburban house in the middle of nowhere one scene and then is in a cliche American high school the next. And I mean Cliche American High School. To be fair though, the cliche American high school stuff did offer the one truly fun moment in the movie where "Head Bully" breaks his car. It's a dumb as dirt moment but smirk inducing. Though why they hate "Geeko" who shows no signs of being a nerd is beyond me, I mean he looks just like them.

Regardless it's horribly made and you can find much better reviews online than the one I've retired from sketching out. I don't have the passion for it. This is the kind of the film that completely disrespects the original work it's based on and it's fanbase. It name drops things from Dragonball left and right (Nameks, Oozaru, Roshi being a perv) but they have no correlation to the original show at all. The Kamehameha (something any anime fan should perk up hearing) is...well...it's not cool. It's laughable.
I'm not a fan of Dragonball so these changes just strike me as stupid, but to a fan they'd be infuriating. Example- changing Asuka's last name to Shikinami is not something to get angry over. Now if they changed Asuka to a 30 something blonde haired, one liner sprouting, bubble headed flirt who's originally a cheerleader and just wants to flirt with boys and doesn't care about piloting Eva then you'd have something to argue about. That's Dragonball Evolution.

I will say one thing. This film should put to rest any argument about "Why don't they cast Asians in anime adaptation roles!?" This film surely does that but the problem is they still cast the wrong actor. Not just to play the live action adaptation of their part but just the wrong actor period. Justin Chatwin isn't playing Goku but he fares the best out of the cast.

To take it back to Eva, basically if they were to cast a live action film I'd more prefer the right actor for the part, whether he's Asian, Black, or White, than someone who's absolutely horrid in the role just because he shares the same ethnicity.

It's gonna take a special film to not make Dragonball:Evolution the worst film of the year. We're talking "The Happening" bad here.

The Happening was hell of a lot better than DB: E.
I also shamefully enjoyed the happening even though it was plotless >>; *expects facepalm*

But I think we can all agree DB: E just purely sucks.

I haven't seen DB:E yet, but at least it's got a cheesiness factor going for it. The Crappening, on the other hand, was 100% putrid, irredeemable shit.
Awesomely Shitty

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

DB: E makes The Happening look oscar worthy.
If people were to give negative star ratings

The Happening would -3 stars
Dragonball: Evolution -7 stars

US tv spots

http://www.dragonballfilm.es/ultima-noticia-f17/spots-de-los-personajes-de-dragonball-evolution-t862.htm

These adds remind me how Superhero movies where back in the 90's like Spawn, Batman & Robin, Wing Commander (A video game movie though) where.

Okay.
I've actually seen the movie.

This is how I was afterword.

That movie would probably appeal to those who have not seen the original series.
