GNR is an abbreviation for Genetics, Nanotechnology, and Robotics. I learned that acronym reading transhumanist literature like The Singularity is Near, the Singularity being what Instrumentality is often compared to. So I can say, "GNR will facilitate the merging of human consciousness into a higher being."

Partially decayed little girls covered in maggots. I see them more than you'd think in my occupation.

About the woman you clasp in your arms, can you say with certainty that she does not feign pleasure? About the woman you mistreat, are you quite sure that from abuse she does not derive some obscure and lascivious satisfaction? Let us confine ourselves to simple evidence: through thoughtfulness, gentleness, concern for the feelings of others we saddle our own pleasure with restrictions, and make this sacrifice to obtain a doubtful result." -The Divine Marquis

If by "forensic entomologist" you mean "necrotic-pedophile" then only after a few beers.

I work in I.T. and sometimes when I'm doing maintenance stuff on cabling (its all run through crawlspaces under the flooring) I think of being inside the MAGI. The national guard also does maneuvers and training across the country from where I live and the large scale equipment moves they do is reminiscent of a few familiar scenes of tanks firing off a few rounds.
The world's still the same - there's just less in it.

Cicadas. Train crossings.

My sister reminds me of Asuka a lot. Granted, she's much more stable and caring, but she can have her... less-than-pleasant moments where she gets pissy at me for no discernable reason. Sibling rivalry, huh?

Three-quarters of the way through John Green's novel Looking for Alaska, my brain started substituting in "Asuka" every time I read "Alaska." (The titular character is something of an unpredictable loose cannon, which helps.)

The paragraph where I first realized I was doing it was this one, where a World Religions teacher is giving a lecture to the narrator's class:

"....Rabe'a al-Adiwiyah, a great woman saint of Sufism, was seem running through the streets of her hometown, Basra, carrying a torch in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. When someone asked her what she was doing, she answered, 'I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise, so that people will not love God for want of heaven of fear of hell, but because He Is God.' ”

A woman so strong she burns heaven and drenches hell. [s]Alaska[/s] Asuka would have liked this Rabe'a woman.

It's a little sad when I realize how many things make me think of Evangelion, but what's even sadder is that I corrupted my friends and now these things make them think of it too. ;P

The sound of cicadas on hot summer days, classical music, religious symbols, sunsets over power lines, streets with many electric poles...

...most of these things are obvious, though, and I'm sure many here have already evoked them. I guess it goes to show how often they pop up in Evangelion.
