How much longer is the Eva franchise gonna pump out new shows, movies, and manga? For awhile it seemed it was only gonna continue on in new manga only, but some new movies have come out. Will the franchise ever stop pumping new material, or will we be old geezers still seeing Rebuild of Rebuild of Rebuild of Rebuild of Evangelion?

Not quite what I was thinking, Sachi. I'm just curious if others think there may be even more of a reboot to the franchise than just the Rebuild movies and its tie ins.

Providing there's a suitable ending supplied by Rebuild, I don't see why there should be more movies or tv. I'm sure even Anno has limits.

Bravo . This man is a master of comedy. Sarcasm, right ;)?

No, I agree. If there is a suitable ending in Rebuild than I have no doubt Evangelion will be laid to rest. If he pulls a 'Kimochi Warui', we'll be back here in twelve years time discussing 'Resurrection of Evangelion'.

As long as there is money to be made Gainax will whore it out. Probably even after Anno is burried in the ground.

Not necessarily, because the Eva franchise and all the money that Gainax makes are mostly from Eva fans. If the fans start to lose interest, (we all will at a certain point) then Gainax will start to lose money, and will discontinue the line. It pretty much all depends on what we think of Eva, and in the future.

I was too, but I'm optimistic. Anything is better than a live action Eva.

I'm only guessing here.

Anno will re-release "Neon Genesis: Evangelion" with all 26 episodes, that will have an even better production value then "Rebuild." We're probably going to have another manga, a live action trilogy, and Graphic Novels that will expand for more then 20 volumes. Hopefully, ALL OF THIS will happen in the next 10 or 20 years.

If the "Gundam" franchise could survive 30 years, then I have no doubt that "Evangelion" will be around for a very LONG time. :ting:

Will EVA ever be laid to rest?

NO. Though I could see a few RetroCons in the future.

The Japanese love to have these long-running franchises. For example:

1) The original Mobile Suit Gundam anime premiered on Japanese TV in 1979! That series is nearly 30 years old and still you've got TV shows, movies, and that huge toy industry behind it.

2) Macross debuted in 1981. While I think MS Gundam is more for the kids, Macross has a more sophisticated storyline and tracks to older kids/young adults (and not a few middle-agers). Still, after 25 years, Macross is going strong with Frontier this year.

3) Kamen Rider. Now, Kamen Rider goes back to 1971. This show is for kids, of course, but I mention it because Anno references it as one of his early inspirations. It's nearly 40 years old, but they're STILL cranking movies out (latest out 3 years go), mot to mention a healthy merchandising run.

I could go on, but you get the point.

EVA was envisioned as an anime for older fans, though its appeal goes completely across the board. Given how the Japanese never seem to let anything die that they have their heart set on so much, We'll have EVA for years to come, though, like Gundam, it may not resemble much the EVA that our generation knows.

As some have speculated, it's possible Rebuild is part of a way to establish a continuity to the series that could allow for continual storylines.

It won't be laid to rest until after Gundam has been laid to rest.

Im betting they will remake the tv series shot for shot with the rebuild tech (so basically rebuild but originalised) and re release that on tv.

There are many games to come.

Possibly a Evangelion versus RahXephon

and then Evangelion versus Rahxephon requiem

(or the same thing but with gundam instead of RahXephon)

Rebuild ending will fail everyone will hate anno and hell become depressed and do a EoE style new ending which will rock.

Gainax will rule the world.

Er...people already hate Anno, and I don't think he really cares if people like the ending or not.

Yes it will be laid to rest. But maybe not before any of us die, that's the question.
