Subtitles in EoE

So, I just finished watching eva for the first time in Japanese with English subs. For the record, I've got the platinum collection, and the movie boxed set, so those are the subs I'm referring to. I liked seeing the differences between the English dub translations and the sub translations (the subs were better in this respect). In EoE, however the subs were almost the same as the dubbed dialogs. Did the dub team take more ques from the sub guys, or did they just use the dub dialog as subs?

Probably the second...

That's pretty common if they want to save money.

I'm more of a Dub fan myself. I like to watch the movie, not read it.

I'm pretty sure EoE had dubtitles.

Which begs the question, I've seen the movie quoted around here with language not in the dub version, is there a popular fansub?

a lot of downloaded versions have individually made subtitles (usually those that have acknowledgments at the beginning)

I figured as much, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't any sort of "offical sub" or something like that floating around.

WOW...this far without an AWL tirade. You're getting better, EGF. On, topic, I can't even watch my manga DVD's anymore. I haven't seen it in a good while, but i prefer the renewel fansub.

It only warrants a tirade of someone claims her work was godly (shudders).
Oh, but God forbid any of these theories have any validity! After all, we are just brainwashing innocent people with Reichu's fanclub propaganda!--Trigger's Elysium sarcasm for the masses!

Yes, they were dubtitles.

In several spots of the film (excluding the final line and Misato's line about the Angels), it's clear lines from the dub are being used instead of what would actually translate from Japanese, if you know a bit of the language.

Yeah Manga's version is the only comercialy available DVD, of EoE; it wasn't in the platinum collection. Renewal's fansub would be internet territory.
