And I've never gotten around to reading the manga, but after watching the movies the lesbian scene in SAC came at me outta nowhere. Albeit, they are alternate universes, but still...

It wasn't the Americans who wanted to censor it, for those of you who are assuming otherwise. The manga-ka was annoyed that that scene, which was only intended to be a brief piece of fanservice, was getting more attention than the rest of the book. So, it was his decision to expunge it.
