Fly me to the moon!

I've always wondered why this particular piece was used as Evangelion's ending song, and why it fits so well. It is rather unusual to find english songs composed outside of Japan in anime. Anyone have any idea to whose decision it was to include this song and why?

Maybe it's irony.

It sounds like your favorite dream...which is an odd way to end Shinji's worst nightmares...

Ah, Fly me to dah moon....

I like the song.

What I don't like is the many different versions of it shown at the end of Eva.

It just seemed like they picked as many musical styles as possible to use with one song. While not a bad idea, I don't think it worked out all that well in the end.

Some of them kinda make my ears bleed.

Bloody ears = t3h music4l sux0rz.

I'm just glad no one in the audio/music department working on Eva at the time thought of using rap

That probably wouldn't end well.

I think the reason they chose "Fly Me To The Moon" was probably because it was known early on in the series that the moon (or moons) would play a significant role in the story, whether literally or symbolically. As it unfolded, it became more symbolic than was probably intended (save for the large presence of the Black Moon, and the somewhat more subdued role of Luna). There was probably a vague idea of how everything would turn out, and the reference would have been more obvious. Also, the "I Love You" line, well, that's obvious.

I'm actually surprised to be hearing all of this. Personally I hated "Fly Me to the Moon." Both me and my friend who introduced me to Evangelion agreed that it was one of the worst songs ever. And the horrible remixes-ugh. God! No more! FLY ME TO THE MOON...TROPICAL REMIX....FLY ME TO THE MOON...LUNAR REMIX....FLY ME TO THE MOON...UNDERWATER THEME REMIX....FLY ME TO THE MOON...CRAPPY DEATH HEAVY METAL GOTHY NONSENSE REMIX...FLY ME TO THE MOON...WEIRD COMPUTER "BLEEP" AND "BLOOP" SOUNDS REMIX...FLY ME TO THE MOON...RAPPER REMIX...FLY ME TO THE MOON...MESOAMERICAN RITUAL CHANT REMIX...

AAAAAAAH STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT STOP IT!!!!!!!!!! IT WAS BAD THE FIRST TIME, WORSE THE SECOND, EVEN WORSE IN THE THIRD, AREN'T YOU SATISFIED WITH THE MONSTER YOU HAVE CREATED?!

Zankoku Na Tenshi No TEEZE however is excellent.

You don't HAVE to listen to all those versions if you don't like them Gilgamesh. Leave them to the rest of us who like to sing along!

Dave, have you ever heard the episode 27 audio track from...one of the Japanese soundtracks? (I don't know which  ).

Aside from being ridiculusly funny, there's a part where Asuka suggests that kareoke might save the series,

and then begins to sing "Fly me to the moon"...

...BADLY  !

For the record, I can't sing all that well...as much as I like it, singing along can be my worst enemy

I've heard one of the audio tracks, but I don't remember Asuka singing Fly me to the Moon (and trust me I WOULD NOT forget something like that). Where exactly did you hear this 'soundtrack' Kiel?

*Moves closer to Kiel*

Do tell?

*Moves even closer to Kiel*

Come on, tell me!

*Sits down right next to Kiel*

It would be in your best interest to tell me Kiel.
