Silent accounts from before the relocation have been purged.

Anyone joined and just lurking since 4-Oct-07, be aware that there will be another clear-out in a month or so.

Culling is a good thing. I purge my own board semi-regularly of zero-post accounts and those with no posts attributed to them over the past year or so. But that's just my own philosophy...post or die.

Being that my group's only a few dozen, I tend to post cull lists and have everyone vote on which ones to kill off. It gives everyone an opportunity to save their favorite alt-IDs for future amusements.

Then again, this is less of a problem since I put a stop to guest-viewing. And using a board platform that's good at bot-squashing when it comes to new accounts helps, too.

Tipped off by the latest spammer, I realise I've been slacking on janitorial activities.

I've just purged a couple of unused recent accounts with porno links in their .sigs; some time before the end of the month I'll go through and purge most of the almost 200 never used accounts that have accumulated since last time.

Genuine lurkers -- post, or lurk as guests.

Apart from a few special cases, any account registered before the beginning of this month and showing a zero post-count has been purged.

Can I ask if ye're using a specific tool built into PhPbb for this, or just manually erasing them one at a time. Thing is, I've been meaning to do the same thing on a board I run, but just havent gotten around to it. It's been neglected for so long it's actually become a bit of a problem.

So then, is there a special tool somehwere or will I just have to knuckledown and kill em?

This is all manual -- the members list by post count in one tab, admin console in another; copy, paste, check the box and submit, lather, rinse, repeat.

select user_id,username from phpbb_users where user_posts=0;

for each user_id:
delete from phpbb_user_groups where user_id={the user id};

then:
delete from phpbb_users where user_posts=0;

Should we start deleting 1-post affairs, as well? We have people from the beginning of the forum who have made no more than 1 post, some of them spam posts in the graveyard.

If someone's account is deleted, the post stays there anyway; it's just being posted by a "guest".

Not this time. There's a lurker bot among the accounts (Don't know if it's still active), some ANF members, a couple of genuine lurkers and some very recent joins. The old ones can go easily enough- there's a lot of 'em. Just don't nuke 'em all.

Tines-san, I now appreciate you even more now that I know the kind of job you undertake. I am humbled by your dedication sir.
I do have a question though, what special cases were you mentioning above? I mean if they haven't posted anything, why keep them around anyway unless they work on the wiki?
