Maya Ibuki
Yes, a topic dedicated to our favorite lesbian bridge bunny, Ibuki Maya. I was reading the NGE fan geeks commentary and read the comments about Maya. It was said that she is unusually popular for the amount of screen time she gets. It was true that, during the TV series, I pretty much ignored her, but by EoE everything changed.
Maya is a secondary character who is considerably fleshed out in EoE. Although we see her reacting in disgust to the violence around her in #19, it's in EoE that she completely loses it. While the other bridge bunnies act pretty much per usual, Maya quickly abandons her station and clings to her pink pillow to take cover under the bridge. My point is that she is the most "human" of those on the bridge. She's not acting weak, she's acting like we all would if we had a giant Rei hand pass through us. Maybe she's not cut out for this job, linking her somewhat to our reluctant protagonist.
Wow, I kind of ranted there. What are your views on Maya? Do you agree/disagree with my hastily assembled assesment?

Taken from the NGE fan-geeks Geektionary:
"Bridge Bunnies
The operators of the command center in general, but more specifically Maya, Aoba, and Hyuga. No one seems to remember where the term originated."
Ah, okay, thanks.

Well... depends on how you want to interpret that particular scene.

Oh, I remember seeing that awhile ago. Does that mean GNR conferred upon her some "divine epiphany?" Or was it just an accident of her hand passing through her?
I'd go with the former. Although I dont have any screencaps, it seems that Rei's hand seems to twist around Maya as if it was deliberate. But the question is why would GNR do that?

I would say it was just an accident of GNR passing through her, Maya's expression is natural since I'm sure most people would like "Holy shit what the fuck" if a giant white hand passed through their bodies.

Ibuki's the only character in the whole series I consider to be good looking. Her personality bothers me a little, but that's just a product of my general contempt for people who freak out and hide with their pillows when everyone else is fighting to hold the line.

Conveniently, a bunch of kids got to (vicariously) do that.
All rather ironic, Maya. You surely must have known about that 99.89%, too? Naughty girl.

Makes me think of what it would be like to have a ghost pass through you while your on acid. It probably felt like it violated her soul or something.

Maya looks maybe the most normal person in the story.
Not acting weak my ass :).
She's just an ordinary women who is a student of Ritsuko and i got the feeling Maya needed something to hang on and that's prolly Ritsuko.
Sempai Sempai Sempai!!! Boom....
Gendo is the strongest in the story... he faced the truth:" i'm an asshole"
ye during the episodes she wasn't looking all to popular, but i'm still questioning why did she only worked with 2 other people... Has anyone seen so few people in a big factory-looking building....

I just realized I spelt bunnies worng on the file name  oops.
Apart from the big three (Ibuki, Aoba and Hyuga) only three other nerv workers were named (in the Shinji Ikari Raising Project[out of canon]) Kaede Agano, Aoi Mogami and Satsuki Ooi.
I think Ibuki is quite easy to relate to despite the small amount of screen time she has. She has targets and likes and dislikes. She’s nauseous when we are nauseous. On top of that she rarely does things that are deplorable (unlike say, Shinji). And when she is hugging the cat pillow you just go Awww. She acts very human but she’s not whiny.
On the other hand maybe with more screen time she would have become annoying.
Do you think when GNR’s finger goes through her she realizes that Ritsuko has died? Maybe she was temporarily connected to the pre-3I. Maybe she foundout about her Senpai and Gendo and then: Senpai came back yay <3 <3 *TANG*.

I believe the term "bridge bunnies" originated with MACROSS's Vanessa, Kim, and Sammy. The series introduced the idea of the "mack man" commander surrounded by female crew. MACROSS was, of course, Gainax's first chance to contribute to professional anime (Hiroyuki Yamaga was 20 when he worked on it, and Anno 21).

You'll have to explain that percentage to me. Though stating it explicitly will probably ruin the joke (if it is indeed a joke) XD

Well some of the joke is currently sitting in the firearms thread split from this one but the info you seek is here:
ep #05 wrote:RITSUKO:
Yes. Although they are composed of a different form of matter,
their actual composition, in terms of the arrangement
and spacing of the pattern, falls within a 99.89% match of human genes.
So she should know the Angels are human.

Oh, but God forbid any of these theories have any validity! After all, we are just brainwashing innocent people with Reichu's fanclub propaganda!--Trigger's Elysium sarcasm for the masses!

Maya killed Kaji.
Also, for some strange reason, there seems to be a growing number of Shinji/Maya fics on FF.net. Is the need to pair Shinji with an attractive older woman really that bad that people will grasp at the tiniest bits and pieces to form a ship? I mean, how many words actually go between the two in the show?
