I feel like the instruments are definitely invoking Shinji and Kaworu, what with the Cello and Piano. Though I can't tell if the vegetation and overall state they're in are meant to symbolize that they're gone or rather that they're not in a good place right now. It could be what "This is our graveyard" and "May their souls rest in peace" mean, but it's a bit hard to say. If you had to ask me though I'm leaning more towards them just going through it rather than them being outright dead.

The design of Eva Unit 01 (at least what we can see of it, shits just a shadowy silhouette lmao), if it even is Unit 01, is very interesting too. It looks far more like a humanoid monster than a robot here, which is very fitting considering that is what Evangelions actually are. I think this tweet put it best:

I'm honestly not sure, Square Enix also announced that NieR Automata is "to be continued" this week, Taro appears pretty booked.

2B is a mix of a bunch of archetypes, there is arguably as much tsundere in her as there is Rei-coolness.
That's one of the reason why I'm in favor of brand new cast, we risk having the third different characterization of the same cast. It gets convoluted.

I feel like I have to play this as well lol. I understand Nier only based on my older brother playing it, and trying it myself only a little bit. I watched the anime as well. The game has been said to have one of the best game narratives of all time, with a very complicated method of storytelling and multiple endings. I always thought it was quite deep but never really understood its themes. The concept of technology and mankind melding together fits eva perfectly.

Funny how their anniversaries coincided as well.

If it's not made by Anno/ the same authors, It doesn't count as the same thing to me. / Is basically fanfiction.

Kazuya Tsurumaki is involved and he worked on directing the rebuilds. Also, Anno is right to step away from the helm and hand over the franchise to someone newer.

Repost from Discord: Not sure if anyone else has attempted this yet but I did a slightly half assed frame-by-frame of the final shot of the trailer to ascertain the silhouette of the new Evangelion. Very Shin Godzilla-like, very large protusion on its back, wasn't sure if the pylons split into two or not because of that, odd handle on the back of the helmet but otherwise very 01-like there, xenomorph-ish double mouth. Drawing also doesn't communicate how narrow its head is, making the xenomorph comparison apter-er. It's a tough shot to read to be fair so don't visually quote me on it,the double shoulder things may or may not be things.

I had no idea what Dunbine or Sirbine were before seeing those images. At first I thought the two rightmost images were the new Eva 01 concepts. I cannot even describe how happy I am that they aren't.

Anyhow, I'm being cautiously optimistic about this new series. As others have said, I hope they go the Gundam route with a new cast and lots of new Evas. If they do re-use old characters, I hope to see Touji, Kensuke, and Hikari become the new main pilots with Units 03, 04, and 05 becoming their respective Evas (as was originally planned for NGE), with Kaworu and Mari added in as the pilots of Units 6 and 7. Maybe it could take place after a botched 3rd Impact in which the pilots of Units 0, 1, and 2 (Rei, Shinji, and Asuka) vanished from existence, and now it's up to those 5 to protect humanity from a renewed angel offensive.

The first big question will probably be series length, 12 episodes or 24 episodes changes everything.

Supposing the new series takes place within the Rebuild continuity, how would you guys feel about the series set in the 14 years between 2.0 and 3.0? I'd be down for it. There's so much unanswered stuff that it's just ripe for exploration. However, that might end up turning a lot of people off and cause them to immediately write off the show, because a lot of fans just don't like the Rebuilds and refuse to engage with them in any way. This could be an opportunity though to fix the image of the Rebuilds and change people's perception of them if the show is used to improve and expand on plot points that were not handled the best, like Mari. It could do for the Rebuilds what the Clone Wars show did for the Star Wars prequels. Before the Clone Wars show, the prequels were widely hated, but the Clone Wars show ended up changing people's perception of them by elevating and improving the material.

It wouldn't be the first time with the EVA cast... But I think everything will turn out good. The people behind this project are very talented.
