Does anyone know if reports that the short will "never be online officially" are true?

I don't expect this thread to get much activity, but I thought it was important to create it anyway for people who want to remain spoiler-free, so I brought the Kuribo post here.

I was talking to RussianRiz about this and we came to the conclusion that there might be a possibility that the short film will never be released overseas, especially since this isn't so uncommon in Japan (he gave the example of Studio Ghibli, which has several short films that are only available in their museum). However, Evangelion is a more corporate franchise. So I imagine that at some point the short might be released (perhaps in a Blu-ray collection or to promote some other project).
We will have to wait ans see.

Well with the Ghibli shorts the thing is you can go to the museum at sny point. This Eva event is a limited thing.

Anno I think also just wants people to see his stuff usually.

I'll try to be patient and opt for camrip when I lose hope.

Perhaps. I think the short also has a lot of merchandising potential, mainly because Asuka is the most popular character right now. There are at least two figures I can see they selling.

We do have it on youtube but I guess Khara took it down. It's easy enough to find a camrip - not sure we should post it here because we know for a reasonable fact that Khara watches over this forum.

Alas, according to the post on r/eva, it's happening again in April. They'll probably show everything again and the only new info is whatever Anno & co might say this time.

i couldn't resist and watched the camrip... so i envy you and sincerely wish you plenty of patience and self-control! :)
to be honest, i regret having given in to my curiosity, and i will avoid any spoilers from now on as well.

that instagram post from "anime updates" is also making the rounds on twitter, and there is no source behind it whatsoever.
seems like engagement bait to me, which is unfortunate.

and yeah, as kuribo said, the festival will not be hosted again anytime soon.

the shiro sagisu concert that was presented on day 1 of the festival will get its own proper premiere on march 28 and will then be hosted again on april 19.
link to it can be found here. that news is unrelated to the short or the festival as a whole.

given the recent "Full Complete EVANGELION Blu-ray BOX" release, i think there are three realistic options:

1. the entire EVANGELION:30+; festival gets a blu-ray release.
   they recorded the entire stage program, and it would honestly make for a nice item. they include the short as the main purchasing incentive.
2. the short is released on streaming services.
   they did deals with amazon prime for the release of shin, and i wouldn't be surprised if they did some kind of promotion with them again.
3. they just put it out on their youtube channel eventually, for some kind of specific occasion.

i'd also like to point out that there is something called "Final Program" at the festival today.
it's the other thing that's explicitly excluded from the paid online livestream, so i will allow myself to hope for a trailer or announcement of some kind.

i think you won't have to wait much longer. hideaki anno seems to have confirmed that they are working on licensing all the festival footage.
the anime short will get a proper release in the future, so rest easy!

it sounds like a blu-ray with all of the festival footage is the most likely option now.
