If this isn't new, I will just say I haven't noticed anyone mentioning it.

14 years is the length of the time skip and also the original age of the pilot characters.

To me this is a key to certain significance. In some literary sense I think it matters a lot, The time period was not chosen randomly.

For Shinji, a period as long as his life previous has passed in the interim. Asuka, though cursed to never age physically, is twice his age now.
Mentally, she is now the same age Misato was, approximately, and Misato is now Gendo's original age or so (and there are parallels)

It's also the same time difference or close between the first and second impacts. I take this time period as literary-important and also possibly ritually important within the story.

I think it's the number of years since the last EVA: The End of Evangelion. It was released in 1997 and 3.0 was released in 2012. That makes the production during 2010-2011 the most intense. 1997-2011 = 14 years since the initial Third Impact.

That's interesting too. But I don't see it as very "literary."

Since numbers are important in the symbolism and in referenced esoterica, I figure the number 14 has further meaning to be explored.

Pretty much everything in Rebuild can be explained via meta lore. I don't see why this case should be an exception.
