My limited knowledge of katakana tells me he's talking about details and shadows among other things.

I really appreciate how much effort was put into making it an authentic 90's look, with film grain, glow and aspect ratio. It was really nostalgic and fitting. I really love this era of TV and cinema.

translation  SPOILER: Show
This time, since old and new footage were intermingled, the challenge was to minimize the sense of incongruity when switching between old and new footage.
While referencing the in-house video masters of *Neon Genesis Evangelion*, we opted for a "physical approach" rather than digital effects to completely recreate the "atmosphere" of the cel animation from that era. We traced the roots of the film actually used back then and procured actual film stock from the successor manufacturer currently in circulation that's closest to the specifications of the time, and put effort into it.
We shot and developed gray board with a film camera to create "genuine film noise material" from scratch, then "digitally duped" (high-definition duplication and digitization) and composited it.
(*Evangelion Broadcast 30th Anniversary Special Engagement* Special Effects Director Yoakira Yabe)

Cel-like animation style is being experiment with digital animation by a few studios now. Sunrise last year for example released this G Wing animation that emulated very the well the 90s look.
