While referencing the in-house video masters of *Neon Genesis Evangelion*, we opted for a "physical approach" rather than digital effects to completely recreate the "atmosphere" of the cel animation from that era. We traced the roots of the film actually used back then and procured actual film stock from the successor manufacturer currently in circulation that's closest to the specifications of the time, and put effort into it.
We shot and developed gray board with a film camera to create "genuine film noise material" from scratch, then "digitally duped" (high-definition duplication and digitization) and composited it.
