Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
That box set looks tantalizing! I have the OG series and am in the process of getting the Rebuilds, but I'm debating whether this is worth the price or not.
Has anyone pre-ordered this yet?

Be advised that this is a Japanese-only release, so there won't be any English subtitles.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
This set really appeals to me, having EVERY version of each film is great from a preservation stand point; it is unfortunately out of my price range but i am Glad this set exists. Maybe GKIDS will put out a similar set in the future after they acquire 3.33.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
Oh yes, I'm aware of that. After thinking it over, I've decided against it, since I own the series already and have plenty of things to spend in the next few weeks. Also, even if I ordered this, it may end up arriving while I'm out of state, so it'll be out in the cold for a few days.

Re: 30th Anniversary short written by Anno at celebration event in Japan
Comments on this that I’ve read: (re: the surname part)
“ it was revealed for the first time that it's not Ikari Shinji but ◯◯ Shinji, the adult Shinji from Ube”
“ " ◯◯ " what does this symbol suppose to mean? never seen it contextualized before.”
“It's a spacing element to indicate a written character has been omitted. So it's showing that Shinji now has a two-character surname (replacing the one-character "Ikari") but they're not telling us what that surname is.”
“ It is possible that not only the surname but also other words are included.
However, since ◯◯ is not attached to Mari in the same scene, it is presumed not to be a word indicating the situation or location.”
“ "◯◯" is called MaruMaru and it's a common placeholder in Japanese, it's like John/Jane Doe in english”
On Mari,
“ What could be the reason for something other than a surname to be entered in ◯◯?
Adult, grown-up, different person, reincarnation, newborn, Shin?
But Mari, who should be under similar conditions, has nothing attached to her, right?
Karasan would definitely think about consistency and make sure everything matches up properly, right? ”
(No ◯◯)
“ Additionally, Asuka (28 years old) and Mari (29 years old) are also first-time information, huh
It makes sense that Mari has such a young appearance
In a world without Eva, their surnames would probably be different too, right?
In Evangelion, Gendo Rokubungi (sextant) married into Ikari Yui's family name,
so if the same thing happens in the new theatrical setting, maybe Ikari Gendo has married into Ayanami Yui's family name”
Re: 30th Anniversary short written by Anno at celebration event in Japan
An little clarification, the 28 years old Asuka they're speaking is the one who appears in the Instrumentality (when Shinji gives Asuka the age she should have).
The Asuka in the ube station isn't mentioned in the booklet.
PS: The booklet doesn't seem to be related to the short film. So, I think that información shouldn't be here.

Re: 30th Anniversary short written by Anno at celebration event in Japan
I think EVA fans (as always) are taking these things too far. Of course, it would make sense that they have different names: it was not only Shinji who removed Evangelions from existence; it was Anno who removed everything Evangelion from his head, his life. All of it disappeared into the ether. All that remains are nameless characters that remotely resemble the main characters. They are XX Shinji and XX Asuka and so on. And at this point, they are not Shikinami, Soryu, or Ikari; they are just air, nothing. Rather, they all blend into something that is neither. A concept; an idea. It makes sense why they don't have last names, well, because, at least for Anno, they all stop existing when the credits roll.
And I doubt it has anything to do with the new movie; those are just sketches from the 3.0+1.0 production. We will not get a Shinji salaryman short or something like that. I'm sure of it. He's not even directing the new short. It's Naoyuki Asano.
Anno usually revives old unused ideas from the drawer, as he did with the Rebuilds on many occasions. And I'm sure it'll be scraps from the Rebuilds' production, I don't know, post-N3I or something.
I will be very surprised if it reveals some crucial information about Mari or Shikinami or sheds some light on the ending. I imagine the most disappointing thing ever.

I think this takes the cake for the most amount physical releases I've ever seen bundled together for a set of movies.

The amount of re-releases and repackaging Paramount has done for the Star Trek movies since the advent of DVD eclipses Eva.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
I received my boxset a few days ago! I got the full version, including NGE.
I purposely passed on all the previous single JP Blu-ray releases, predicting that they would eventually release a beast like this.
I've been a big fan of the minimalist design established by TGB design., and I've been staring at this thing daily, haha.
The only downside is that it's not fully complete—all previous bonus material featuring "Fly Me to the Moon" by Hikaru Utada is missing (NGE is not affected).
And of course, this thing is very expensive. I have no regrets, though!

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
I made it work to be able to get the box set so I too also have my copy now. I got the NTE-only edition as I am quite attached to my first edition copies of the 2015 NGE Blu-ray box and Archives DVD box. I’ve only watched 3.0 & 3.0+1.0 so far as well as a few of the extras on the special discs. Some small critiques so far:
- The extras for Q are on the orange Special Disc 2. I don’t know what production for physical media is like but I feel the Q extras should’ve been put on a blue Special Disc 3 and the white disc 3 for Shin extras should’ve been renumbered to 4.
- Rebuild of Evangelion 3.0 (-46hr) is like 2 minutes or something small like that. Nice to have but nothing groundbreaking or anything (was this already included in 3.333? I don’t remember seeing it in the menu).
- Giant God Warrior appears both attached to the film in the 3.0 disc and as a separate short on the Special Disc 3. I didn’t check its status on the 3.33 disc but I imagine it’s still there just like the 2013 BD release. It also has three pages of reference material in the special booklet.
- I’ve only watched the theatrical cuts to the last two films so far but I think the unique backgrounds in the menus for the single Japanese releases have been replaced with plain color. 3.0 did not have the starry night background so I assume 2.0 won’t have the trees w/ sunlight or 1.0 with the foggy Tokyo-3.

Oh, wow. I was debating on getting this because I assumed it would save me from the FMTTM deletions; I'd avoided buying any English releases since that began.
This also won't be thorough because there's apparently a new short incoming. I guess that will be included on the Deluxe Plus Plus version in 2040.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
Yeah, it's disappointing—especially since the box is advertised as "definitive"/"comprehensive".
It must be a legal nightmare if not even the Japanese release can be saved from FMTTM shenanigans.
To soothe my completionist brain, I have created a lossless digital copy of the missing content using the single JP Blu-ray releases of 1.11 and 2.22.
It's boxset + USB stick for me now, haha.
If this doesn't get a single physical release, I'm gonna be upset. Not a fan of rebuying things just to get a version update.

The choice to put all the 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 extras on one disc is certainly odd. Cost saving seems like the only explanation to me.
I'm also a bit sad that none of the movie discs retained the original menu backgrounds. While I really like the minimalist design, they might have overdone it a bit. (I can confirm that all the discs have plain-color menu backgrounds.)
Both 3.0 and 3.33 play the Giant God Warrior short prior to the scene with Asuka in space. The regular and 4K versions of 3.333 don't include the short.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
I want to get this set so badly, but due to tariffs it’s prohibitively expensive! For the NGE+NTE release shipped to USA on Amazon.co.jp it’s $748.04 (with shipping) and that’s without the first printing bonus…
For just the NTE set it’s $511.66.
For the NGE+NTE set the ‘Import Charges’ are: 24,877円 or $159.09
For just the NTE set it’s: 17,015円 or $108 USD.
For those that bought the set, I’m curious where you bought it from and were those prices similar? Back in 2015 I bought the NGE set from Amazon.co.jo and I just paid for the set, there were no ‘Import Charges’ (just looked at the invoice).
I’m just wondering if there’s any place I might avoid getting slapped with an extra $100-160 for what is essentially plastic discs and paper booklets.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
I pre-ordered the box on amazon.co.jp in August. Amazon guarantees that you get it at the cheapest price they offer between the time of purchase and the actual release date. I paid around ¥97,000 in total, including shipping, taxes, and import fees. I got the box in less than a week, directly to my door.
Ordering from amazon.co.jp is great because there are no hidden fees.
I don't have to pay anything extra at the door or get my package from the customs office.
shinhito is talking about the various bonus items you are able to get when ordering from specific retailers. There's also one for amazon.co.jp, but it makes the set unreasonably more expensive. I personally don't think any of the bonuses are worth it, except for maybe the EVANGELION:3.0(-46h) Visual Story booklet that's included when ordering from the EVANGELION STORE.

Re: Rebuild 30th Anniversary boxset
I ordered off CDJapan for a grand total of ¥78,000 (roughly $500), and to my understanding there was no bonus material attached. That price includes FedEx Priority delivery which is expensive but extremely fast in terms of importing from Japan to Florida.
