What kind of knife is the Progressive Knife based off of?

I was recently watching some clips from the show, most of which involved the EVA's using their weapons. One clip peaked my interest though, the scene in which Shinji equips the Prog Knife and stabs Shamshel to death--or more accurately, screams his head off while digging the knife into Shamshel's core.
So, this made me wonder about the type of knife that the Prog Knife is based off of.

A lot of the weapons for the EVA units are mech-sized versions of real world weaponry, so the knife would have to be mech-sized version of a type of knife. So then, I'm curious on what you possibly think the basis of the Progressive Knife originates from.

It's a fairly generic knife; I have one not too dissimilar

To me, it always looked like a craft knife, the old type which had a blade edge you could snap off when blunted. This is more NGE/EOE version, at least, i'm not sure about the rebuild version.

Now that I think about it, it seems like a combination between that knife, and one of those cheap ones that you have to pull the blade out of manually.

Oh yeah, the 02 one is definitely based on a carpet knife. I was talking about 01's

Well I've finally come to conclusion on Unit-01's Prog Knife, it's probably a really shorter version of a simple bowie knife, but with some slight changes to it.

There's a very brief mention in the show, at some point Shinji's class crowds around him and asks him about being an Eva pilot and he rattles off a fact about his prog knife.

I was always under the impression they were inspired by the knives from Dune or something.
