By "forum banners" I mean the image displayed at the top of the page.
I've enabled the random banner option in the board preferences and now I'm curious about how many of them are there.

Forty-four.
One is the default fixed banner, and the random selection has the forty-three banners made by the late NemZ. Note that if you use the wide theme, in many cases you get an extra "Easter egg" at the right-hand end. Basically there's one for every character, angel, and Jet Alone and the Wunder; not for the Evas, though, except for the MPEs (I can't remember why). When they were first exposed (each was the default for a week or two over a year), the character ones were linked to the character's birthday, or if not known then that of their Seiyuu. If you hover your mouse (sorry, touchscreen users!) at the top left corner of the image, the menu overlaid on it disappears so you can see the whole thing.
