Curious to know if people think they would of actually finished it on time if covid didn’t happen as it was another 6 months after June 2020 until it was actually completed

Yes, end of thread.
I mean, predictability is the central attraction and the narrative hook that we've all come to expect from the Evangelion franchise. How come Anno can't realize this? Twice? - FreakyFilmFan4ever

It would have been releasable; and like all the preceding films work would have continued to tweak it further.
As is likely happening even now!

Probably yes. Unless any unforeseen event occurred, and it was necessary to delay it for a few more weeks.

Re: If covid never happened do people think they would of still made the original June 2020 release date?
Yes.
They announced the release date a full six months out. Which means they likely had the day chosen internally another six months to a year before that.
If a once-every-hundred-years awful pandemic hadn't come along and caused chaos all over the world the film would have 100% been ready and in theaters on June 27, 2020.

NO.
They didn't finish the movie at the time and everything was still in progress, for what we know this not the case anymore.

There was a lockdown last March and it pretty much halted almost everything in the world.
Ogata herself said since they had to do WFH, the production which was very much on-track to be finished by late spring/early summer ended up slowing down significantly along with voiceover works being paused (it happened to basically all animes, even the airing ones), of course they couldn't finish it come June considering the circumstances.
So I'd say, YES. We probably would've seen the Bluray release too right now.

Yeah, you don't just go over the release date without a very good reason. Anno has taken eight years to make Shin, what makes you think he would set a rushed finish date he can't hold? The man is a perfectionist. The movie was ready (or almost ready and would have been if not for the lockdowns) to be released in June, all work after that was just extra polishing that would have otherwise gone into the home video release

The movies function on their own terms. If people can't accept them on those terms, and keep expecting them to be NGE, then they probably should have realized a while ago that they weren't going to have a good time. ~ Words of wisdom courtesy of Reichu

I believe the film was not finished.

Of course the film was not finished when they decided to delay it-it was however close enough to being finished that Khara could reasonably expect to meet the release date without problems.

Re: If covid never happened do people think they would of still made the original June 2020 release date?
Absolutely yes.
Few movies are finished months before their release date. In fact, a movie being "finished" weeks in advance is usually a sign that the movie had been shelved by the studio. A lot of movies are making last-minute changes, and almost every audio commentary I listen to speaks of "Eleventh Hour" fixes and solutions to problems in the film in the editing room.
We most certainly would have had an extended/touched-up "X.xx" version of Shin Eva once it hit DVD and Blu-ray, but the original version would have been screened in theaters sans covid. I mean, Evangelion Q made it to theaters for its initial release date back in 2012, almost 8 years before being "finished" in 2020. I don't see why the same thing couldn't have been true with Shin Eva sans covid. (And who knows when Frances Ford Coppola will actually finish The Godfather Part III and Apocalypse Now, despite them both having been to theaters several times.)
