I created this thread to expand on Derantor's writers challenge.

Where to find Beta readers.

How to post to FNN and Archive of our own and set up accounts.

Beta readers can also advertise in this thread.

Archive of Our Own (A03)
https://archiveofourown.org/
Was founded in 2008 is getting more and more popular, due to fanfiction.net being in decline.

Pro's
Every good for editing layout though with whole chapters you need to copy paste over.

You can upload high quality book covers but also fanart ether your own or what fans have done for you there is no limit to images though

You will need image storage like Imgur.https://imgur.com/ for your fan art, so you can link to it and add the link through editing which will show the picture.

Very rarely has faults and faults are fixed fast.

You can post links to others works and send them gift stories or say a story was made for them.

Authors can collaborate, both names will show in the story when posted.

Stories can be downloaded in full, so they can be read either as PDF and other platforms types for mobile devices.

Cons
Can take up to two weeks to get an account though it is faster if you sent an invitation by another member.

Fanfiction.net (FNN)
https://www.fanfiction.net/
One of the oldest places to post fanfiction founded in October 15, 1998.

Pro's
Very easy to set up an account.

You can have one book cover per story.

Cons
Book covers are very small not great quality.

Stat count and chapters and reviews sometimes don't show.

Not so easy to edit chapter faults yes you can update chapters, you can also edit the chapters, but website has a small layout window.

Story cannot be downloaded, and you can only copy and paste chapters over to word programs.

Though at one point FNN stopped the copy and paste function though the user was able to get around it with special browser apps and the toggle read viewer.

In a lot of other fandoms most of the action has moved over to Ao3 these days but when it comes to EVA, the FFnet community is still very active while EVA A03 has precisely two things:
- weird porn
- kawoshin
which is great if you're looking for those especially since ffnet doesn't technically allow porn,
but there's precious little else. There's like six fanfictions with Rei prominently featured. Not ShinjiXRei, but like Rei in general
I wanted to try harvesting the rice

I wanted to hold Tsubame more

I wanted to stay together forever with the boy I like

Tech-savvy types can still get around it by way of opening Chrome's inspect tab, navigating to the div containing the story text and unchecking the checkbox next to user-select: none; in the element.style CSS section. Voila, the story's text can be selected once more and there's nothing the FFN crew can do about it.
Strategic Cyborg Evangelion : an average author's aspiring attempt at awesomeness. Currently at chapter 42.

You could write one like a proper epic, or a long one as I've found if you get one break through fic in a place it can push even inspire other writers to write more, plus there could be a massive influx after the final movie either goes to cinema or streams if the ending is Rei/Shinji leaning.

Thank you for adding this to the thread as I was not aware of the CSS loop that's really helpful. ^_^

Beta Readers

Fanfition.net has a beta reading service look for Beta menu go-to fandom of choice and send a message to the profile you want beta will say what they do and don't read, what they like or won't do.

Alternatively you can ask on discords or on fandom websites.

A well-rounded beta should help you improve your work you should not be fighting against them for control they should want to work with you and you both be a team.

Also, if they are overly negative they should be told about their toxic behaviour right away as this can impact you and your writing long term.

If their behaviour does not improve you should find a new beta as I've seen so many people ditch their beta as the relationship has clearly turned sour.

If your beta shows intense ego this is a huge red flag as there is a huge chance they will undermine your work or talk down to you at best at worst bully you.

The best beta's are those who've read the story and love the content and ask to beta it as they have a passion for it.

All negative aside it is worth the trouble of getting a beta when their good their wonderful and great as a second pair of eyes who can point out things you can't see or have missed.
Anywhere can be paradise as long as you have the will to live. After all, you are alive, so you will always have the chance to be happy.

Just so everyone reading this knows, there's now this site: https://fichub.net/ , although i'm not sure how easy it is to convert its output formats into something you'd want to work with in word processor.
The art of being grown up, the dirty little secret nobody lets on about, is that it's all about getting comfortable with acting the part, and reaching that point where you stop giving a fuck, and do stuff that needs to be done, because it just needs doing, and ain't nobody else going to do it for you. -Mr. Tines
