During a 2003 event, Cartoon Network aired the first two episodes "heavily edited" according to the Toonami wiki. I've been all over but I can't find either episode in full, just a promo for the event that cuts off right at the end, a very damaged VHS recording of the scene where Unit 01 saves Shinji from falling debris and Shinji decides to pilot after holding Rei with no audio, and a screenshot of the edited Misato bathtub scene. The VHS recording seems to show that the shot of Shinji looking at his bloodied hand while holding Rei was cut from broadcast, so clearly there were more edits than this, and a few newly dubbed-over lines to remove swearing, alcohol, and sexual references, but that's all I can find anywhere. There isn't even a Lost Media Wiki page on it. I know slightly different versions of things we already have, aren't really that high priority in the lost media scene, but this one could be interesting.

I'd say so. CN and later Toonami were some of the great "multiplayers" for US/Canada Eva fandom, and even then it was pretty obscure at the time.
