That makes sense. Releasing 3.0 CRC will most likely reveals some informations that weren't meant to be know until Shin, especially since both films are deeply tied to each other. The problem with it taking so long to come out is obviously because of the unexpected eight years gap between 3.0 and Shin.

Aaaaand there we go, REVIVAL OF EVANGELION will be screened from January 8 to 22 (notably, just a day before Shin) in 5 major cities, theater list to be announced. The DCP will be based on the HD master from the NGE Blu-ray Box. So the "leak" from Eirin site was right after all.

The real question for me is if they will split up the showtimes and tickets between Death(True)² and End of Eva, cause I have zero interest in sitting through all that recap, but actually seeing End of Eva in a theater is rather tempting. They did split the Gunbuster ova into two separately ticketed showings, so hopefullg that's the case here too.

Also sus that this has a two week span for showings while all the Rebuilds only got one week each. Maybe it will be a week of Death and then a week of End.

Revival of Evangelion has always been packaged as "Evangelion: The Feature Film" with an intermission period period between Death & EoE IIRC. It's doubtful they'd cut the movie up like that when they've always been paired together in Revival.

That and Eirin's site also lists the combined length (160 minutes). So they're definitely getting the full uncut Revival.

Keep in mind that the three Rebuild films' re-release were originally 4D-only, hence the relatively brief run for each film. Pretty sure the inclusion of normal versions was a last minute decision due to the big demand.

Regarding why it has two weeks of showings, I've been roaming around the JP Eva twitter lately and there was a lot of younger fans who voiced their desires to see the "old films", so I think this one's aimed for the so-called second generation Eva Boom fans from Rebuild era who haven't get the chance to see Death and EoE back in the days for obvious reasons.

CMIIW This is also the first time Revival gets another wide theatrical release in 22 years, riding on the hype for a "new" ending, it feels proper for the "old" ending to get an extended re-release run.

When I finally do watch the final film, I would definitely do an Eva-marathon before just to get in the mood.
