Obviously Imaishi wasn't gonna release a show right after Promare, but turns out Nakashima will still collaborate with Trigger next year. This time with Little Witch Academia director Yoh Yoshinari.

Interesting!

You missed the leak yesterday.

The site is https://bna-anime.com with the fine print saying that it'll be on Fuji TV's +Ultra channel, which if past form is an indication means it will be streamed on Netflix.

It also seems to be an international effort as this (retweeted by Trigger) shows

Yep, I totally missed that.

If it comes to Netflix, that's awesome. Would also be in line with Yoshinari's other show Little Witch Academia.

All hail Trigger.
Juicy color palette, great team, nothing could go wrong. Except for furries being not my kink. But I hope they will be able to convert me.

A new Nakashima story and I haven't even seen Promare yet.
Great stuff!

Brand New Animal Otomedia interview (Summary/Translation by /a/non):

Image Image Image

This time, Nakashima was approached by Trigger. A new project was taking place, and Yoshinari really wanted Nakashima to be the writer.
Yoshinari said: "I want to do an anime about beast-people."
The pitch was: "the story of a girl that was formerly a human and suddenly turns into a beast-person so she doesn't understand the beast world. Then she meets a beast-person who teaches her about the world of the beast-men. What's important is that it's about a girl who experiences a sudden change and has to
When Nakashima was brought it, Yoshinari asked him to flesh out the world. "How does this world, in which beast-people exist, work?" So then they worked creating the setting together.
Beast-people can turn into human forms. Shiro is one of them. Yoshinari really likes how transformation looks in animation, so they wanted to have opportunities to animate it. Yoshinari loves Osamu Tezuka's "The Vampires". However, for mysterious reasons, Michiko can return to her human form. That's why she is forced to escape to Anima City.
Beast-people have enhanced abilities depending on the animal they transform into. Shiro has keen senses and speed.
It's not that the series is realistic, but they want it to have a sense of plausibility. That's why Yoshinari and Nakashima did a lot of research and thinking to decide just how a world in which "beast-people reveal themselves" would work like. Yoshinari's previous work (LWA) was fantasy, but this one is sci-fi.
They want to empathize the contrast between the human society and the beast-people society because it's important for Michiko's story. It's the story of a girl that it's suddenly thrown into an unknown world. Anima City's unique society is part of the work's appeal.
When coming up with the story and setting, Yoshinari would draw many idea sketches and Nakashima would come up with stories for them.

Unlike Imaishi, Yoshinari is a bit cynical. Both Yoshinari and Nakashima empathize more with the disillusioned Shiro, so they use that to their advantage to play more with Michiko's straightforward positive thinking in contrast with Shiro. Michiro and Shiro's relationship is one of the key elements of the story.
Michiro and Shiro have a typical "mismatched buddies" relationship in which a stubborn negative man meets a girl that's the exact opposite, but there are more elements to their relationship that will surface as the show progresses.
Although it's a "buddy" story, Michiru and Shiro's relationship isn't all there is to the story. There is still much to reveal about the show. Besides, there are other key characters and relationships. Michiru and Nazuna's relationship is very important. And Shiro's mysterious relationship to a currently unrevealed character is big, too. There is also Alan, who is introduced in episode 3. He plays a major role in the plot and the characters' evolution.
The story is fast-paced, filled with mysteries. The plot gets more complex and the character relationships more complicated. As the show progresses, Nakashima wants the audience to constantly wonder what is going to happen next.
They came up with a wide variety of beast-people to populate Anima City.
Nazuna is Michiko's BFFs since childhood. Nazuna's relationship with Michiko is very important for the plot and Nazuna will become a key character in the second half of the show. Although the focus is on Michiko and Shiro, Michiko and Nazuna's relationship is an big part of the story.
Can't reveal much about Alan yet, but he is a character that will be connected to Michiko and Shiro.

Very excited!
And yeah, Yoshinari does come across more cynical than Imaishi lol.

I'm a biased asshole who screams "ugh, furries" when I see the premise.
But putting that aside for just a second I know that Trigger rarely disappointed me, and the color scheme is exactly my jam, so I just hope, it'll be as glorious.
And when I read interviews like this, how much thought they put into it, I'm sure this will be a fun ride.

Late to the party, but I think I'll pass on this one for the time being. Not really feeling the artstyle, and currently not in the mood for another Trigger show

Is this worldwide? That still isn't clear to me.

Anyway, great news, but I guess between Promare being a film and this coming out all at once the hype week to week discussions like with Kill la Kill are a thing from the past.
Nostalgia, I know lol.

I found BNA slow to start, and nearly didn't continue after the first episode; but it improved considerably after that. I'm halfway through and about to watch the second half over the next few days.

Might as well share my thoughts on BNA, although I don't have much to say

Yet another solid offering by Trigger. Well directed and well animated, it’s hard to find anything very wrong with this one. It feels lower key than most Trigger shows, despite the frequent action scenes and quick pacing.

SPOILER: Show
Due to the more nuanced conflict at the beginning I was hoping for a more bittersweet ending, but the one I got was fine too.
I guess my expectations after SSSS Gridman were a bit too high.

Even if this show had been released weekly, I don't think there would be much discussion about it. It's closer to LWA than SSSS Gridman or Kill la Kill.

8/10

I haven't watched BNA yet and will be waiting for the Netflix release to happen but since this is a Kazuki Nakashima scripted anime I just have to ask....

Watched BNA.
It's a good show. I'm not as much of a fan of Yoshinari as a director as I am of Imaishi, but maybe he has done the best Trigger works outside of the work of the latter (keep in mind, there are a few works I haven't seen yet, like Kiznaiver).

If you have followed the work of the people involved, you will get a sense of knowing some ideas and concepts already. This isn't necessarily bad, since some are seen in a different light. But some have been done stronger elsewhere.

One issue is probably the length of the show. It's somewhat short, yet wants to pack in a lot. You never truly get a sense of getting to know the characters fully, though what is needed for the story comes through. But don't expect KlK levels of character work.

Also, on top of this, some episodes felt sort of disjointed. Episode 5 offers some cool action and visuals, being animated by Sushio and storyboarded by Imaishi. But their ott style (in this episode) and the plot almost seem a little out of place in the context of the whole thing (they also worked on other episodes and I feel there it blended in well).

Also, slight spoilers (like basic premise stuff), if you have seen any trailers for the recent Trigger works it should be obvious:
SPOILER: Show
I think as a work having discrimination as a subject it offers interesting ideas, but I think Promare is superior in this sense, mostly due to the simple fact that I think it is a better done work and leaves a bigger impact in the viewer. I also cared more for the characters in that movie despite the even shorter runtime. Probably because the key aspects of the characters the movie focused on it REALLY focused on, it managed to do this. The characters in that film are also more instantly charismatic, something that I think helps with a shorter work. Meanwhile, BNA has more conflicted characters, and it works. But given what they are conflicted about, I feel more time would have been needed for this to fully blossom.

That turned out long, but I feel like the comparison is inevitable.

Also, kudos to Trigger and Nakashima. Their subject matter is needed.
