At first glance, this looks much better than FranXXs. Let's hold out hope.

I wasn't super into it, but to see it as an idea of what the show could be, and also just to remember it it'd be nice.

It's really hard to sell me on superheroes, though. I think the concept of superheroes is just inherently lame. But the concept of Gridman is kinda cool.
I feel like the actual show will be much more to my taste than the teaser. I already like the tone they go for (claustrophobic close ups and spooky music) also the CG is barely bearable - generally visually it looks kinda neat.

Not sold on the cutesy character designs contrasted against the darker superhero elements..... but I have zero prior knowledge of the series or character so I may give this a shot. I can't comment on Darling in the Franxx cause I dumped that show once I saw how the mechs were piloted and I knew the series wasn't going to justify that or do anything thematically interesting from that point on. From what I've seen online about where the show has gone I feel I made the right choice.

Honestly, I'm just waiting for the next Hiroyuki Imaishi show Promare. I'm sure it will be another hyper-kinetic visual experience like Gurren Lagann & Kill La Kill since it shares the same writer, but those guys know how to make my passion for their work burn brightly while their show is airing and then have that passion quickly disintegrate once the last episode has aired. But damn if his style doesn't get me going.

Gridman is kinda like Ultraman, except he can combine with vehicles such as the God Xenon and Dyna Dragon, which will give you the impression of Megazords from Power Rangers.

Has anybody seen Ninja Slayer to comment on Akira Amemiya's style (which might paint this differently). Usually I have no problems with those combinations, it's a case by case thing for me.

No no, that was a recommendation for Gendo's Papa, since Kill la Kill and Ninja Batman share the writer, and that energy really comes through.
The people doing this show were the animators for Kill la Kill.
Previous works by this director are Inferno Cop and Ninja Slayer.

I'm in a Discord group in which one guy who was at Anime Expo and has caught the premiere of Episode one shared his feeling.

Alright.
Trigger should be utterly ashamed of giving this show absolutely no budget.
The CGI is incredibly obvious and while it is bearable it is still bad.
This show uses some of the most basic tropes ever, it is paced horribly, it looks like satelight made this show, not trigger.
But this is the most creative first episode I have seen this decade. The way this show does not care one bit about limitations, that it just runs with literally everything. It jokes about all it's shortcomings, and exaggerates them almost intentionally. It's like Punch Line with Mechs and also actually funny.
This is the worst technical show Trigger has ever done and it isn't even close.
This is also the best show Trigger has ever done from an entertainment perspective.
This show will be a mess to debate on /a/
But I fucking loved it.

Hidden might be a weird word choice... It definitely shouldn't take you out of the experience, because you notice it... Unless that's the point, I guess.
I can see Gridman being a lot like Gatchaman Crowds, which I enjoyed tremendously even if it suffered a little from too little resources to bring the vision to life.

Worst technical Trigger show has to be an exaggeration though, because that would mean simpler than Inferno Cop lol
