For those Eva-fans who haven't seen it, it's a really good story of an underground resistance movement, headed by a son of the tyrant they're trying to overthrow. It deals with the theme of self-knowledge very well.
Let me put it this way: It's an anime that has several characters worthy of deep analysis (Lelouch, Suzaku, Mao, C.C.). It might not seem that way, at first glance, but it really is a very deep show sometimes. I think that's something one doesn't often see outside NGE. This is why I consider it one of my favorite anime of all time.
(By the way, it has mecha too.)
I don't suppose anyone else here has seen it yet (and would like to give their opinions)?
P.S.
SPOILER: Show
Some folks might think that, just because CG doesn't always take itself seriously, it means that it's not intended to have a lot of depth. While I agree that it can be enjoyed on a purely superficial level, and that some scenes are clearly meant to be enjoyed that way, that does not mean that there is not a lot of really high-quality writing and cinematography going on. If anyone would like any examples of what I mean by that, feel free to ask.
