Shaynjayell's Third Genesis might be an effective antidote. Sure, it handwaves away all of Complementation -- but it's definitely not S/A. :twisted:

And that is a problem, how? It is the most consistent style of NGE fan-fic I've ever found to achieve the goal of it not being S/A.

The key-turn ritual for the lesbocopters did make a great hook for me -- I picked that series up for the hawt girl-on-girl tongue-wrestling; but stayed for the sheer awesomeness of the story.

On the wider topic, I find that the pictures are better when there are no men involved, hence the original recommendation for Third Genesis -- even if that story is itself low citrus, by the very nature of the genre, Ikari-kun appears only in marginal roles in such tales.

I Knew Him When, by Adam Kadmon. Written in March 2008, so I couldn't have known about it when I made this thread.

Whoa. It's about Mana K., grown up as a military investigator, in a world after people Returned from the tang goop. Humanity... somehow not only pulled back, but rebuilt civilization. Most stories about returning from Instrumentality are about Shinji and Asuka wandering in a huge abandoned earth. This is a character study of a truly post-NGE world. Very interesting.

Oh, and Tokyo-2 gets nuked.

They weren’t totally blind though. Recorders at the scene of the Impact captured the siege, the attack, and the emergence of the red Evangelion, Unit-02. Then nine white units appeared from the sky, were beaten, resurrected, and then disemboweled the red mech. The last image the recorders hold is a violent, swirling mass of power rising from the shattered remains of NERV on two, great burning wings.

After that, nothing.

After that, they were left to piece the truth out from the fragmented shards of human memory remaining on earth, and those who returned from the sea that smelled like blood. Those first few hundred to come back faced a broken world, besieged by disease, famine, death and despair. Somehow, as if guided by the hand of God, they survived. They managed to cling onto the scraps of humanity left on the planet. In a mere twelve years the survivors had picked themselves up, brushed off the terror of Impact, and resumed the world, pretending nothing had happened. Governments began churning again, peoples began living again. The world was returning to what it had been, but with one great exception. The nation of Japan was no more.

“Eh, don’t let it get to you. Stupid sheep outside only think of themselves, blubbering and pissing themselves about oh, the cults, and oh, the UN.” His voice went high, trying to imitate a child’s. “And when will the halo go away? Wah! When will the ocean stop smelling like blood? Boo hoo.”

I like it. It combines two of my favorite things: 1) shoehorning in Mana and the characters of Girlfriend of Steel without being Mary Sue-ish and 2) working out the mundane details of the depressing postapocalyptic world that is NGE. And it manages to do the post-SI thing quite well.

I haven't been on this board for nearly two years. Have you found any other good post-EoE fics?

Been wondering when somebody would link that. One of the very best post-EoE fics out there. Extra points for having nobody but Asuka and Shinji and not devolving into WAFF within the first hundred words, although it sort of gets there eventually.

Apostasy by DrerrRedclaw - a oneshot, and would fit in 3. almost 4. Seems like aside from A/S (which the story focuses on) Makoto and Misato are alive as well. Got some interesting Eva vs. human action going on in Africa. I'm a sucker for the mundane side to NGE, so I dig it.

A3I by nodsri. 3., but it's clear that it takes time for people to return from the LCL sea. Shinji's mental state is bad. Ritsuko is alive but she's a difficult at playing den mother. Aoba's the commander of NERV. The UN is well aware of their role in Third Impact, and is very unhappy about it (they were all put on trial for genocide). Europe and the U.S. are trying to make their own Evas. Intrigue happens, more clones. Wish this was finished.
