Just finished reading NXE yesterday, all i can say is WOW, for me its acturally on par with the original. For me it was the characters that did it, initially i laughed at the son of lara croft insert, but by hell they did an awesome job of bringing his character to life and having interact with the rest of the cast. And the rest of the characters were also given the same fleshing out as DJ and made to be more believable, to tell the truth i acturally miss reading the thing because of the characters. Now the main plot line that bamboozeled me a little with the whole celestial thing but it was still IMO a good story which in the end solved all of the plot holes so far as i could tell.

Cant think of anythign else to say atm, ill post some more when i can.

The USAn miscomprehension of "Angels" is probably the most significant weakness of the whole saga; but it's by no means alone in the annals of fanfic for that. There are a few other places where its early place in history shows (before current levels of reverse engineering, before EoE was easily available).

And, looking back at the thread, I see that it is ultimately responsible for TToR404, which has to be a good thing.

I looked at it but honestly couldn't get past the first few paragraphs before my bullshit-o-meter exploded. Seriously, he's the son of Laura Croft and Fox Mulder? For fuck's sake...

Worse than most? No, this seems on-par with most fanfiction.

As I've said before somewhere else, 95% of all content in any given media is crap and 99% of the fanfiction based only on the topics that don't insta-fail is still crap.

Ah yes, that reminds me that I tried to read this at one point in time. I put it down when I read that and never got near it again.

Perhaps a bit exaggerated but true.

I don't think liking a story with a character of a highly unlikely geneology as its biggest problem is going to destroy anyone's credibility. Myself, however, I have my bullshit-o-meter set to high gain. And once it goes off, it just ruins the rest of the story for me. Other people like what they like, I won't hold that against them.

I'm affraid some things should just be so obvious that such extra work on my part isn't nessicary.

Maybe, but I've already spent far too much time sifting through crap to press onward once I get a whiff of that old familiar teh suck. Story starring an annoying new character (and yes, he did start annoying me the second he started talking to the section 2 guys), whom I've been forewarned will be a self-insert omnitalent type, complete with hints of totally implausible mega-fandom crossover in his oh-so-mysterious and tragic past? That's three strikes.

Erm, I thought mrpanda was talking about NXE, not TToR404. Gez, harsh...

I think we're proving the thesis posed by the topic title here. ^_^

Unlike the more conventional party-line approved NGE fics, the ones that you are allowed to admit to liking, I found NXE to be eminently readable -- the writing is technically competent, and the storyline has enough traction to engage.
