I'm cautiously optimistic about this.

-the only English language novel actually being developed in parallel to its Japanese version involving a pan-human Soviet in a galactic struggle to survive and to export the communist utopia/revolution to all the down trodden alien class and race- one of the premise being that Khrushchev remains and has abandoned Lysenko stupidity

I couldn't had said it better myself. Even when I first watched it on Adult Swim as a teen, I was confused and I had no idea what was going on. Say what you will about Evangelion but it is much down-to-earth and doesn't rely heavily on absurdism and whatever it is Tsurumaki uses in FLCL, Diebuster and TTGL.

No sense of fun?

FLCL was only the second anime I watched (Eva was the first), and I had no trouble at all working out what was going on, and enjoying the absurdity as well.

I'm really curious, what's going on behind the scene. Was Funimation the driving force, lobbying in the old staff? Or did Tsurumaki&co. honestly think, that there's really something left to explore? I'm afraid, the former is nearer to the truth, but I honestly hope they don't only do it for the payday.

I'll hold out hope.

Also, I'm really curious what that'll mean for Eva 4.0, as Tsurumaki and Sadamoto have been held hostage by the production of NTE for almost 10 years now.

Funimation does not have a hand in the production of this its Toonami and Turner that do.

I don't haveany interest in that.Sure I love FLCL,but, the story already ended and reading the synopsis is almost the same story but with a different protagonist.

I love Adult Swim (For the most part) but even if it's their favorite anime, the original 6 episodes are fantastic, and there couldn't have been a better finale then the one it has.

Still, I'm willing to give it a chance, though I wonder how it'll all be without Tsurumaki's direction.

I'd really prefer if both Anno and Tsurumaki started working on some new original series instead. Sure, maybe Eva and FLCL were their best works, but they've still made great ones besides those.

I agree. Anno and Tsurumaki could make somethng original as opposed to creating a sequel to something established but to each his own

Tangentally connected. But as part of an effort to raise publicity for FLCL. Toonami will air Production IG's 'Sand Whale and me'.

I was worried right up until the end of the trailer that this was going to be a 'totally divorced from the original' sequel like Gunbuster/Diebuster, but I am glad to see Haruko is going to be a main character.

Now, the bigger question. Will the english dub bring back Kari Wahlgren to voice her?

I'll keep an eye on this, but I'm somewhat skeptical (FLCL is in my top 4 shows)
Shinji: "Sooner or later I'll be betrayed... And they'll leave me. Still... I want to meet them again, because I believe my feelings at that time were real."
Ryuko: "I'm gonna knock ya on your asses!"
-Asuka: THINK IN GERMAN!!! -Shinji: Öh... Baumkuchen...
Hayashida: "As game developers, our work is special. All of us here can put smiles on very many people's faces with our work."

I'm hoping for a good show but I'm sure the public (less so critical) reaction will be very similar to the Rebuilds since that will be the go-to comparison for most people. Meaning even if the show is good a lot of people will hate on it because it's not another case of lighting in a bottle & the new series is either too similar OR too different from the original.

Since I enjoy FLCL but don't see it as some kind of unheralded classic - I love it overall but find the six episode series sags a little in the middle - I'm getting good vibes. I'm also figuring most if not everything from the trailer is from FLCL2 because apparently both seasons will be their own standalone stories with (possibly) different casts & settings.

UPDATE:
Also it looks like in Japan the two Seasons will actually be presented as theatrical features! Interesting. Perhaps this means the new seasons have actually been designed as films first & will be strictly focused on a central character & not be as episodic as a TV series normally would be. Also, the two seasons have slightly different central staff members.

Though I do wonder if these Seasons as Theatrical Features will be the only way Japanese audiences can view FLCL2 & FLCL3 or if these will be released after the seasons air on TV. Cause they'll obviously want to fight piracy if a movie is in theaters but is available in the US for streaming.

With two standalone FLCL stories, the announcment of three new Trigger series - one being a reunion of Hiroyuki Imaishi & the write of Gurren Lagann + Kill La Kill - & possibly Evangelion Final (hold your breath, just hypothesizing) 2018 looks like it will be a good year.

I just don't see the point of a new team doing FLCL but clearly trying to imitate Tsurumaki's style.
They won't do Tsurumaki better than him.
Also, the main character looks pretty generic.

But this is just reacting to this teaser. I'll wait for the show for any actual criticism.

Huh, it looks like I was right. Adult Naota seems to have become an Amarao clone. He even looks like him with different hair.

I'm really curious. I love the original FLCL, but I've always thought that the show explored all of its themes sufficiently. Now, with a new cast this might be interesting. I'll wait and see.
