"Stupid Kanji" is "shi", meaning "die" or "death".

Awesome poster. :O

The only people I recognize for sure are Misato, Rei, and Asuka. Maybe Maya is to the left (my left) of Misato? And the school girl below Rei. The only person I think it could be would be Hikari, unless its just someone random. And is that mysterious floating white thing covered by text Ritsuko?

The English version is notably worse than the Japanese version. What with their pixels and uhm... Not having to translate anything since it's more than likely the original version... And uhm... I'm out of fuel there.

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn't want that poster hanging in my room... I've got enough issues to deal with to wake up one morning, reminded how terrible the world is to see that poster...

I can't really read any of the small print Kanji (I barely know any Kanji anyway!), but going by memory of the words in the film/etc, the huge text means something along the lines of:
dakara minna shindeshi maeba ii no ni... "So, everyone should just die..."

And the texts towards the bottom means this:
dewa, anata ni wa naze koko ni iru no? "Then, why are you here?"

...koko ni itemo, ii no? "...Is it alright for me to be here?"

So yeah, the translations of that seem more or less okay.
And all the movie info (End of Eva: Air/etc...) looks correct.

So, where'd you get this translated poster from anyway? I'm wondering if there are some for the two Death & Rebirth posters out there... (And why's the image quality of this one so bad?! O_o)

It's shinde shimaeba: the former is the "-te form" of shinu (to die) and shimaeba is an "if" form of shimau. Shimau is acting as a modifier of sorts here, but I don't completely have my brain around that one.

(And why's the image quality of this one so bad?! O_o)

If one misuses the power of the JPEG, innocent image files suffer.

I found the English one a while ago in my travels online. My guess is the poster suffers from Bad jpg compression, and bad photoshopping. I think it's fan done. I want a clean image so I can make a better one.

Since this is relevant to the topic at hand...

This is my poster:

Sort of relevant, I guess.

Where can I get a poster like that?

I always have wondered about that EoE poster (english version). Is it really just fan made and posted online rather than an actual poster sold commercially?

Looks to me as if it were altered in photoshop (via inverted color), then printed out. Doesn't look official, that isn't the Evangelion market style. If it were an official poster, it's one crappy one at that (no offense). A graphic artist should hit himself for even selling that as a finished work. Laziness and unoriginal thinking at it's best I suppose.

The JPEG compression is beyond abysmal; and, yeah, it's definitely unofficial.

That is vintage NGE graphical treatment right there; you see this style occur in official publications and on/in the packaging for official merch. Makes enough sense -- it first shows up in the show itself, after all.

The poster looks like a promotional item for the EoE soundtrack.

There's a clean one in 'Die Sterne', but I moved all those files over to my apartment. I torrented it a few months ago, so someone else probably has it.

Actually; try 4chan. I've actually gotten some help with translation and stuff over there.

"Anyone got a hi-rez version of this?"

I have three clean versions on my HD (including the Die Sterne one), but the problem is that none of them look as good as the version in the poster or contain the entire image. If that doesn't matter, I'll can post all three later and let ya pick. One of them is my own scan from Groundwork of Movie 1; I need to finish editing out some of the tiny hairs and dust specks with the clone brush, but that shouldn't take too long.

Thank you Rachael, I'd definately like copies of your scans when you are done. I think I might try 4chan as well later tonight.

Worked for me?

I won't say no to more versions of that pic, because I always adored it. Might as well not shrink it at all, if you will =)
