Another testament to the batshit craziness of certain Japanese.

I wonder if anyone's wisened up to the idea of writing a book to convey just how retarded the Japanese can be. I don't know about other countries, but Japan impresses me as being uniquely perverse and eccentric.

Cat42, might not want to go into spa's, pick up hookers, or watch T.V.

Or for that matter, much of anything.

Why would I pick up hookers?

in the Beijing Holiday Inn I was staying at, I could call down to the front desk and a hooker will come to my room. I only know this because if you ask for a "massage" you have to be sure to make it clear that you really "only want a massage". On the plus side, you can drink anywhere you want, smoke almost anywhere you want, and there's no drinking age so sometimes you run into drunk 14 year old girls at bars.

I didn't mean to say that it was cool to run into drunk 14 year olds, but that it was cool that there was no drinking age. I just didn't realize that until I ran into a pair of drunk girls that looked under 18. Several countries don't have a drinking age, I think that's fine as long it's not abused. In Japan you can buy alcohol in vending machines, plus they have this really strange and disgusting "synthetic beer".

Seemed like everyone there smokes, including all my relatives

I always find it interesting that even though there is a drinking age, they sell alcohol in vending machines. They operate under the premise that it would be disrespectful for the underage to purchase alcohol from vending machines, so they presume they won't, so they don't have to enforce it. So if there's any wrong-doing, it is not the negligance of the vending companies, but the affluence of youth.

I love it. Very Wonka.

I don't see what the big deal is with that video. Perverse... stuck up... if it's not one thing, it's another. I thought the last clip of the last victim was pretty funny. If it happened to me I'd probably laugh.

That is one of the best pranks I've seen in a while. That stuff will never happen in American too many freakin laws and lawsuits.

Some guy got his leg pinched in airport security, then sued the prank show. Now he's apparently a pretty cool rebel.

I call him a jackass.

More like the Japanese solve crimes they don't want to bother dealing with by denying they exist, cf. the toxic waste dumping scandals of the late 60s, police interrogation techniques, etc. My impression is that there are a lot of differences between the written law and understanding of how the law actually works over there (even more than here).

But the "respect" story is more in line with their self-image of Japaneseness. It is a weird country.

There was a book in malaprops of something like 100 useless inventions from Japan. It had like, the brushes that would be attached to cats feet and lots of other weird stuff.

I like how we're all like "Man, the Japanese are so fucked up and odd!" While at the same time, I'm chatting with a friend of mine about the scene in Jackass Number Two where Chris Pontius ingests well... Let's just say something similar to what Shinji had on his hand at the beginning of End of Evangelion.

Yeah... Americans have no right to criticize the Japanese of being weird and pulling odd/disgusting/malicious pranks and stunts off when many of the same things are easily found.

With that said, I would be pissed if I fell for it. Though I thought that this was going to the be dropping sand on a port-o-potty while someone was using it clip.
