How old was Asuka when Kyoko died?

Do we have a range on this? Was it 3-4, or 5-6?
I couldn't find anything on the wiki.

Asuka born in Dec 4, 2001, Kyoko died in 2005, so Asuka was still 3 unless Kyoko died after her birthday.

But she wouldn't have been chosen to be a pilot at only 3 yrs old, so either she mis-remembers, or something is askew.

With Kyoko's soul already partly in EVA-02, from the contact experiment, it was inevitable that Asuka would be its pilot. The only point open to debate is whether being told that she was a pilot was an elliptic way of saying "Your mother has just died (and we've captured the rest of her soul now)."
